My gliders are still in PP starter cages after 3 years.I have noticed that Exotic Nutrition has their cages on sale and am considering dipping into my vacation fund. I would have to get 2 cages because my two pair still want to rip into each other.
I'm not sure whether I should get the Brisbane or the Madagascar. The Brisbane seems smaller, but it is raised higher off the floor. I am Concerned about my little terrier getting too interested in my babies if he can get closer to them.
I really don't want to shut the gliders up in a room by themselves, I'm afraid they won't get enough attention, but then again they might not mind getting away from the TV.
Any thoughts on which cage would be best?

If you will have only 2 gliders in each cage the Brisbane will be fine.

I agree that the elevation from the floor would be safer if you have a dog that is interested in getting to know the gliders up close and personal.

You might also consider making a fleece wrap that can be pulled tightly around the bottom few inches of the cage and pinned or clipped (Binder Clips work well) in place to prevent your glider from sticking their tails out of the cage bars which might be very tempting for the dog. It would just need to be a few inches high to keep the dog from being too nosey.

Thank you, Candy! The fleece wrap is a great idea. I do think the Brisbane would be a smarter choice concidering the dogs.

Well, my 2 new Brisbane cages will be arriving any day now! I am so excited, and have been looking online at whats all available for cage toys. I'm good with fleece and a sewing machine, but I'm wondering about some other accessories. Are all silk plants glider safe? Any why are there so many wood accessories out there when wood is so absorbant?

Silk plants are fine as long as you get the type without any wire.

I use the inexpensive flower and leaf garlands from Michaels. The leaves and flowers are attached to a plastic chain so they can easily be draped across the cage. I like the ones with fairly large leaves - my gliders pull the leaves off and I just toss them in the cage loose so they can carry them around. I find them in their pouch and in the ferret tunnels frequently.

Well, I have recieved and assembles my two new Brisbane cages! My babies will soon have more than 3 times the room that they are used to. I am going today to buy some more fleece, to wrap the cages. My question is this: the cages came with wooden perches, and I was thinking of making fleece sleeves to keep the wood cleaner. Would this work? It will be a few days before my cages are glider ready, but I am so excited!

Yes you can make fleece sleeves to cover the wooden perches. It will keep the perches clean much longer but eventually they will begin to smell and you will want to take them out of the cage. Make a couple sets of covers for the perches so you can switch them out on laundry day.

You can also wash the wooden perch now and then and leave it out in the sunshine for a few hours to remove the odor and prolong the life of the perch.

We got the Madagascar because it is a little taller than the Brisbane, from Exotic Nutrition. Make sure you use one of their discount coupons.

We and they love the new bigger cage. We had a similar problem in that with a much bigger cage we needed to get more toys for them. We are still in the process of getting things. I have been looking on eBay quite a bit and ordering a thing or two here and there, getting those baby plastic rings, plastic chains, megablocks to build towers, etc.

But they don't have many hangy things.

Still arranging my new cage accessories. I'm having a hard time positioning the water bottles because the wire spacing on the brisbane cage is about 5", the same size as my bottles. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm not entirely sure how your spacing is causing a problem, but you could get different bottles for relatively cheap ( I change them out frequently ) or possibly try to rig them with zip ties????

Taller bottles would work. I was looking for the thread "show your cages!" To see how others placed their water bottles, but I can't find it. i don't know how to find the older posts. I love this site, I have learned so much here!
