Okay so I got my sugar gliders nails cut yesterday and ever since I brought him home he hasn't been himself at all. The only food he will eat are treats or papaya and apple after like 20 minutes I fed him. He's very slow now and stays close to the ground. He isn't moving much and having a slight hard time walking or standing on his food dish. He is drinking though. I'm starting to think he is depressed. Could he really of become depressed after being a go happy glider after one Nail trim at the vet? He is my only glider as of right now and I'm going to make an appointment with a different vet tomorrow about it. What do you guys think? Also he only wants to stay in his pouch and the only way I'm getting him to eat is feeding him in his pouch he's also very shakey. I don't know if he got hurt at the vet or if it was just a very painful time for him

Have you done the tent test to check if he's dehydrated? How warm/cold is it in your house? If he is lethargic and shaking I would consider getting him into an emergency vet.

When gliders begin to show signs of illness things go downhill very quickly. They automatically hide signs of illness or problems because it would expose the colony to potential predators.

No I have not tried the tent test because I really don't want to stress him out right now. I'm going to see if I can get him into the vet in 6 hours when they open. However I don't know if I wIll be able to get him into the bonding pouch. Thank you for your help and I will definitely mention the tent test to the vet tomorrow

If you can't get him into the bonding pouch I'd take his entire sleeping pouch out and try to get it into something secure like a carrier. (You can zip tie mesh onto the front of a cat carrier to prevent escapes.) If you don't have one it may be good to pick one up for future use, this is what I usually use: www.walmart.com/ip/SportPet-Pop-Open-Kennel-Multiple-Sizes-Available-Dogs/5192526

You can easily put a bit of fleece down and put the sleeping pouch in there for easy transit without the hassle of having to coax them into the bonding pouch. :) That or I order larger bonding pouches and put the whole sleeping pouch right in there, lol.

Good luck this morning, I hope all goes well. Be sure to let them know he was lethargic and shaky so they can do proper testing.

Okay so I took him to the vet Thursday and he said there's nothing he can really do and that he looks healthy. He said he thinks the nail trimming might of tramatized him a bit and he should be normal by mid week. Now it's almost Tuesday and he's still not eating as much and is shakey still. I don't know what rrally to do. He still runs around the living room and stuff but he doesn't do anything in his cage anymore besides sit in the pouch. I didn't know the nail trimming would do so much to him. I Think he needs a Buday to hopefully snap him out of this phase because apparently I'm not helping. The vet said he doesn't need a Buday because I'm his buddy but when school starts and stuff I will be a senior and working so I wouldn't be able to provide the time he likes. He doesn't wake up until like midnight or 1am and hes up until like 11am so I think he would be best off with a buddy to help cure him of this stage us in. What do you think?

YES on getting a buddy!!! Some people/vets say it's not necessary, but general consensus on this forum is that they NEED a friend! You are his human buddy, and while that is a fabulous thing to be, most members here believe that you can't replace his need for a buddy of his species. If he is lonely for a glider companion, it could certainly be the cause for his depressed-like state, though it wouldn't explain its sudden onset after the nail issue.

I have read that if the nails get clipped too short, that they can have a hard time latching on to things, and with balance etc. I don't know if this is true, (maybe someone else can verify?) but if it is, maybe your glider is having issues with this and is scared of falling??? Or maybe you're right and he did have a traumatic experience. Either way I hope things resolve and that you can get back to happy parenting. Will be thinking of you and your sweet baby.
