I usually feed my sugar gliders fresh fruits and veggies along with chicken and eggs sometimes (for more protein). And they are also fed dried pellets with dried fruits too. Is this diet okay? Or do I need to change it?

Check out ohpw or bml or a few other well known diets that will be their staple daily diet. Too many dried fruits can s little much as they rehydrate mostly threw what they eat I use a glass water bottle some use a bird drinking trough thing as well. Don't feed any onion garlic leeks rhubarb fatty nuts Pitts or seeds. Almond slivers and pine nuts in moderation. You'll learn more as you go.

I think the only thing wrong with your diet is that it is not balanced.

Their protein and vitamins/minerals comes from the nectar/supplement we feed them. That is why we make the supplement - it is a well researched and balanced diet and insures optimum health. In the wild they eat mostly tree sap, not pellets!

There is plenty of info on diet in the gliderpedia

So can I keep feeding them what I feed them? And then just add the supplement mixture?

what you do is you make a huge batch of a recipe for a "glider nectar"that contains all their needed supplements and calcium. you freeze the batch in icecube trays and then pop them out and put them into a huge freezer bag then at night, you can just take the needed amount of cubes out and offer fruits and veggies on the side.

each diet will have different requirements for what you feed along side the nectar. for an example, LGRS Suggie soup has you feed which ever combination of fruits and veggies on the side, but has you also feed an additional source of protein like boiled chicken, eggs or turkey. BML however has you feed a limited list of fruits and veggies to balance out the high calcium ratio of the overall finished nectar. but, it calls for all the protein gliders need in the recipe so you don't have to feed protein on the side like LGRS. other diets like GOHPW, Gliderkids and OHPW allows you to feed whatever combination of fruits and veggies nightly with no additional protein because it calls for all the needed protein in the recipe for the nectar, and the overall ratio of the nectar is 2:1 or very close.

I hope this has helped clear some things up:)

Some may argue, but if the pellet is a good pellet, and the gliders eat the proper amount of it, it should contain all the nutrients your glider needs when supplemented by different fruits and vegetables.

But there's a lot of "if's" in that statement and most agree the pellet should be replaced by one of the other popular diets.

It's all a matter of what your gliders will eat and what you are willing to prepare (considering time, labor, cost, storage)

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, and your gliders need the calcium/vitamins. If you are unwilling to buy them via mail order, ask a friend to do it for you. It is that important.
