 New Sugar Glider Owner!

Hello everyone my name is Hope and i am a new mom to 2 sugar gliders (Female Daisy & Male Duke) my husband and i bought them on 2-22-14 at the sportsman show in West Springfield MA, I fell in love with them the minute i seen them and wanted them (yes i know i should have researced them more first but i didn't). We have had them for almost 4 weeks now and i fall more in love with them everyday and do not regret buying them at all, the only thing i regret is: who i bought them from (Pocket Pets). After reading all of their info in their members only section and only their info i was very confused and somethings just don't add up to me. I decided to go against what they said and start searching the internet for more info which lead me here! I have so many question and don't even know where to start so I'm sure i will be posing a lot and any help is greatly appreciated. The most important question i have is their diet I'm feeding them the pellets and vitamins from PP and apples slices everyday, and they eat it just fine and seem healthy to me, but after much reading I'm very confused on what they should be eating or if i should just stick to what they are on. I want them to live as long as they can and be happy and healthy! So can anyone please give me advice on what to do! Thanks!!!

There is a LOT of info on this forum about diets. Just search for "diet" in this forum's search box and you'll find a wealth of info. I just got my gliders 2 weeks ago. I found this site before adopting mine, so I had already decided on the Instant HPW diet for mine plus fruits and veggies. After reading through all of the diet info here, it seems that there isn't a "best" diet that people agree on, so you have to read up on each of them and decide which diet you want to feed yours. I read here that all store pellet foods are bad (some are repackaged cat or rabbit food), so it's best to stick with one of the diets recommended on this site. Some involve buying a lot of ingredients online and mixing them up yourself in batches and then freezing them and others use more common household ingredients, but you still need to mix up batches and freeze them. The Instant HPW involves just adding water to the powder they send you. Apparently, the breeders who send the Joeys to Picket Pets don't even feed them the Pocket Pets glider food, so I wouldn't use it. People on this forum seem to be pretty against heat rocks, too, which I believe comes with the Pocket Pets starter kit, so that's also something you might want to read up on here. There is a LOT to learn, so keep reading and make up your own mind.
