 More Q's from the newby.

I have one post on here already and have no idea how to get to it. So hopefully I will be able to read everyones comments on this post. LOL

Can a glider be happy by itself or is it imperative to have at least two so they can play and snuggle?

What can I do to help his hygiene? My male is about 1 1/2 years old and he does not clean himself very well. His tail is so urin soaked that it is sticky feeling and you can see the fur seperated at the ends. His cage was soaked with urin when I got him and I do not know how he was cared for before he came to live with me. I let him settle in for the day and then cleaned the heck out of it the next. If I keep the cage clean will he start taking better care of himself?

Do females also mark you as they play around on you?

I was told suggies do better when there are at least two of them. If I get another suggie will Jack still play with me or prefer the other glidder?

How do you introduce glidders to each other?

You need to get a cage mate, wild sugar gliders live in colonies of 6-10+ and it has been known for some gliders to die of lonliness. Sugar gliders should clean themselves. Keeping the cage cleaned but not overly cleaned is good. If you keep it too clean he may spray to mark his scent which will only lead to a smelly cage all over again, so rotate what items you clean. Males are the only ones with a scent gland, so no females do not mark. If you get another glider your current glider will still play with you...they both would. And they'd be all around happier. Google how to introduce two sugar gliders. I am not sure about that one. But I do know that it is usually farely easy.

Thanks for the great advice Ahsaehr and Kyro298. I have had more time to search around and am more familiar with the site now.

Gliders NEED to be with others. I had only one who I thought was so happy and then I saw him with another glider and felt horrible for ever making him live alone. Now you must understand how much time I spent with my boy, he was hardly ever alone because he was sick and needed a lot of time. Your male may need to be with another glider to be taught how to clean himself, keeping his cage clean will help him STAY clean, but won't motivate him to clean more. Females will mark, I've seen it a few times. If you get another glider Jack will probably bond to you more. When I got my Neo a friend I thought the same thing would happen but Neo was just closer to me and to make it better he helped the other gliders bond faster. If you look in my album in the early pages you'll see photos of me and Neo actually napping together (He was in an ecollar) Introductions are pretty tricky, check out the gliderpedia for some good information. But as Kyro298 said you can find your posts from your profile.

Hi Donna-if you click on your own user name, you'll see a list of your recent posts. I don't know how many people will see in here so maybe copy and paste this to a new post. Hope that helps!
