Bonding?

 Bonding?

About a couple days ago I received a year old male sugar glider from my cousin. My cousin told me that his recent owners never played with and neglected him. So I've been trying to make up for what they put him through, but I'm struggling a lot. He lets me give him treats and rub him, but he will not under any circumstances let me pick him up. When ever I try to pick him up her either bites me or crabs at me. I also can't pick him up because he hides in his wheel all day long. Should I take the wheel out? I don't know what to do. I'm afraid to pick him up because when ever I try I get bitten or crabbed at. I don't know what to do. HELP!!!

he is also probably very lonely. Does he do back flips or run circles in the cage?? He will at some point need a cage mate.

it sounds like he was a pocket pets glider, he probably needs a bigger cage the heat lamp and heat rock removed, and on a better diet. It SERIOUSLY would help if you make an actual thread on the message board so we can get you the help you need to take care of him properly.

getting him neutered will help his temperament and smell considerably. The wheel is not safe for gliders it is responsible for many broken backs, tails and many deaths. You will need a glider safe wheel ordered from online. He needs a safe fleece sleeping pouch to sleep in since he doesn't have one the wheel is his only place to sleep. Take a clean coolwhip container cut a 2 inch hole in the top and cut up some fleece to fill the container with to give him something to sleep comfortably in. Take that wheel out of the cage it is not safe.

Ok, breathe. It's only been a couple of days and your farther than some that have been at it for a month. Your doing ok :) first understand gliders don't really like to be picked up even some bonded gliders don't like it. Second he should be asleep during the day not in his wheel. There are a lot of things that can help you but it's difficult to cover it all in journal comments. Do you know how to start a thread? it would be easier to explain things there and you will get more input than just mine.
