Short tail???

 Short tail???

I just received a male sugar glider who is believed to be a year old. His tail is short!!! I Can't find any information on this. I'm 90% positive his previous owners didn't properly care for him, but does anyone have any suggestions on why this could be?

There are a few reasons is to why your gliders tail is short. He could have self mutilated and chewed his tail off, the tail could have been injured in which case a glider will likely try to chew it off from the damaged point, a vet could have removed it, it could have just gotten a small cut and infected and then necrotic until it fell off. 99% chance this was due to an injury of some sort rather than your glider was just born that way. My boy had a beautiful tail until he received a bite from one of his cage mates and then tried to remove the source of the pain by chewing more than an inch off of his tail. Took him to the vet and she removed another small portion and fixed him up but he popped his e-collar off and opened it up again. Repeat that three times and nearly $1000 later and I now have a happy healthy unique short tailed baby of my own xD
