 its done

I FINALLY finished modifying the parrot cage we had and put the baby in last night! I finished just as she was waking up so I moved everything in and got her in. At first she was like "what? this isn't my cage..." but I turned the lights off and in no time she was exploring. Which was awesome. And I fed her and she was pretty good with eating. She ate all her bml and grapes but left her green beans alone (but hey she ate! )

I'm planning on getting her some more toys and now that I have two cages soon she will have a buddy!! So yay to progress!

 she is obsessed.

I made my baby Totes Ma Goats a ball pit thinking she would like it.

I was wrong.

She LOVES IT.

I'm not kidding guys. Like she plays in it, sleeps in it (and I'm pretty sure she has a stock pile of food in there too)

Like sometimes she doesn't even want to come out of her cage to play. I go in to take her out and her little head will slowly rise out of the pompoms, look at you, and then slowly go back down and goes back to playing.

Alright fine Totes I didn't wanna play with you either xD

 my new project

So my bed room is glider proof and also where my glider sleeps. Well I have hooks from my ceiling (little hooks for hanging things like plants and christmas lights) so I am going to make Totes a nifty little play castle in the sky. I just have a little question that I might post in the questions area. This play ground is going to be hanging from the ceiling. (I will make her swings and pouches hang lower so its not right at the ceiling.) I thought it would be a good idea since they like to be up high and observe and it would be like they are in a tree. So please I would like some feed back if this is a super dumb and dangerous idea. ANnd also some input on what kind of toys to put up. (I'm already planning on having apple sticks either in a pouch/basket for her to chew on with some of her bml inside because she loves her bml xD)

I think she cares about me

So I've been sick for a day now. and this is actually the first time I've been sick while having my glider home. I like to think we are somewhat pals and that she cares about me at least a little. so I was coughing and I see a little head pop out of her sleeping pouch and look at me. I like to think it was because she was worried about me.

or maybe she was upset she got woken up by me xD

 I ask so many questions

I'm so sorry for asking so many random questions. I just want the best for my little totes. Ugh I'm so sorry guys. and all my questions are probably super stupid. I'm definitely a very paranoid person when it comes to the care of animals.

Baby gliders would be so cool!

Alright so I'm thinking about getting a male glider soon (and by soon I mean probably by October) to hopefully mate with my little girl. I would like one or maybe two sets of joeys. Then I would neuter the boy and they would be a happy family. And since I plan on really researching joeys and such by the time I get the male and they all warm up with each other, i will be prepared.

But one thing: my girl has no tail. The person who sold her to me didn't tell me exactly why she doesn't have a tail, but I read it was most likely due to over grooming (her tail is literally a nub. With a little bit of pink skin at the very tip.) Would my tail-less girl be likely to over groom her joeys? And break off their tail?

 This is so upsetting...

So I took pictures of my darling Totes and put them up on Instagram, like a proud mommy does (granted she isn't a human child but shhhh she thinks she is). I go on to see who all has liked my photo because maybe I'll make friends with other glider parents and we can trade tips and just all love on each other's little gliders. But no.

I was horrified by one account. And I'm not posting names or anything. But the person adopted a fat glider. On impulse and said it was cute and yeah it was. But I thought she would have adopted it to slim it down. But sadly no.... This poor baby hardly moved in the little video. And the fur was dull and not the best looking. It was so heart breaking.

I read the comments under the picture and several people commented how cute fat gliders are and how they all have fat gliders. And even one girl said she feeds hers three times a day to keep it fat. It made me pretty upset. And another girl wanted feeding tips for her baby and asked the girl who had the fat glider.

So since I'm me I posted some diet information for the girl who didn't know what to feed gliders. It's just so upsetting seeing fat gliders. It's upsetting seeing fat animals really. I have three cats. Two are fat and one is perfect weight. The heaviest got fat from medical food for his kidney. And holy crap he gained weight. He had been on it for 8 or 10 years. We now have him on regular cat food and he lost a good 5-10 pounds. So instead of weighing 30 pounds he weighs about 21 ish pounds, and he moves around more! He is healthy now! He is happy! The other fat cat lost some weight and went from 20 pounds to 15 pounds! And he too is more active and happier!

I have had lots of fat animals bc of health issues (mainly kidney problems that happend since they were born) so the food the vets out them on made them really fat. And they were sluggish and just not happy at all.

How can a fat sugar glider be happy? It just makes me really upset to see how people don't care about an animals health.
I needed to get this off my chest. And I hope that I can keep my sugar glider as healthy as I can.

Also a question: what is considered a healthy weight for a sugar glider?

 My first Sugar Glider

Alright so I'm going to talk a little bit about my first sugar glider. (and some stuff about me)

I am 17 (turning 18 at the end of the year) and have been around animals all my life. I have/had dogs, cats, fish, gerbils, hermit crabs, birds, ferrets and now a sugar glider!

And wow to be honest I was not super ready for this little stinker. I had a cage and toys though so it wasn't like I completely started from nothing. My little baby's name is Totes M. Goats and she has a huge personality on her. She is a Standard Grey female with a nub of a tail.

Yeah. She has no tail and looks like a hamster xD But she is so adorable. But she is all attitude. She crabs a lot to people (not so much to me unless I wake her up. and if that happens all hell is going to break loose so do not bug her while she is sleeping), she is quite picky and her sleeping habits are kinda weird.

She has bonded to me somewhat (though I might just be full of it. but she does groom my fingers and hand from time to time. so i think that's something right?)

Her appetite is pretty good. She likes quite a bit of things that I have given her. I have learned that she HATES peas (she will throw those out) and won't eat her yogurt treats. she won't even lick them she just ignores them. I have her on a teaspoon of pellets with fruit and veggies mixed in and will possibly be doing either the BML or HPW diet for her. I'm not very sure and have lots of questions on both of those.

Her sleeping is probably normal but since I am very very new with gliders I'm kinda nervous. She wakes up at around 10-11 pm and goes to bed at around 10-11 am. And probably takes naps in between those times (but I'm asleep so I'm not super sure. though she stays in my room so I do hear her when she is awake. She wakes me up from time to time when she comes to the side of the cage closest to my bed and barks at me until I pay attention to her.) I'm not 100% sure if that is good for her. Are they supposed to be up that late in the morning? She stays asleep in between those times only getting up to eat or drink or meander around for a couple of minutes about 2 or 3 times.

I'm going to post pictures of her soon to get opinions and maybe help with how she looks. As a new sugar glider mother I'm very nervous from time to time about whether or not she is 100% alright.

I'm really really in love with her and right now it is only her but I hope to get another little baby in the summer. I also hope to jump more into the community and learn even more about sugar gliders. (I have been reading this site for the past 2 months since I've gotten her. I just finally decided to make an account)

Thank you for reading!
