Day 2

 Day 2

Yesterday I adopted two, 4-year-old, male gliders by the names of Batman and Robin. There was a local zoo that had them for a number of years as part of a hands-on exhibit where children were provided for Batman and Robin to climb on. Unfortunately the zoo had to close, and the two gliders would have been put down had they not been housed. An intermediate caregiver took care of them for a time before I decided to adopt them myself.

Last night I finished the cage set up, and let them loose into their new environment; providing them water and portions of leadbeaters diet mixture. They explored their new home and started the process of acclimation to the change. I also ended up putting one of my undershirts into the cage as well to help familiarize them to my smell.

I've noticed they are responsive to some interaction, though wary, and will receive dried mealworms when offered to them. They also allow me to pet them a little, though, Batman winds up investigating my fingers and decides to try to eat them. I originally thought that he would stop if he realized I was inedible... but he kept going so long as I kept my hand near him.

Today, they awoke at 8:30 pm (earlier than I had expected them to). I then cleaned out their food dishes and supplied another portion of food for them. They played around for short time and headed back into their hanging pouch. Once inside, I removed the pouch and put the whole thing into a bonding pouch I was given by their previous caregiver. They hadn't received much one-on-one time since the move from the zoo, so I haven't tried to handle them much outside some friendly re-direction so they wouldn't get loose.
