I'm really worried, so please skip the "you're really stupid" lecture. I just got two rats, and they have mycoplasma(have not been to the vet yet for the antibiotics but will be within a week). Without thinking, after handling the rats I picked up Spaz (my male glider) without washing my hands. Realizing what I had done I quickly put him back and scrubbed my hands, but I must not have done it quick enough, because Spaz is now sneezing just like the rats are. I'm not sure if Squirrel(the female) is yet, but it wouldn't surprise me. Is it possible for them to pick up mycoplasma from the rats or am I just being paranoid? The cages are kept in separate rooms so the only contact they've had is the 5 minutes Spaz was in my hands. I really can't afford to take all four animals to the vet unless they all need it. Obviously if they need it I'll find a way. Their health is the most important. My other question would be if I need to take them all and can only afford to take one or the other at the present moment, should I take the rats or gliders first? I know in most cases rats can have mycoplasma for months and be fine before they get pneumonia, whereas I would think the gliders have weaker immune systems and should be taken first, but I don't know. Help? I'd do anything for my babies :(
