 can't figure out the 50/50

okay, i'll i have to tell the truth here. i really don't own a suger gilder but i've always wanted one. the problem is that i don't have the space and time & it's not fair to me or the animal to put that kind of commitment on. i'm young and it is simply not practical, but that doesn't mean i can't dream about owning one.
i have been doing more research on suggies latley(ever since i finnally got the enternet) and there seem to be a lot of contradictions.
1)Some references say they smell horible; others say the smell isn't that noticable.
2)some sites say their dietry needs are easy to cater to and others say they are expensive becuase it is an exotic animal. which is it!?
3)Some say it is hard to bond sugies and others say it is easy to over a couple of weeks.

these are only of the couple 50/50 questions that have my mind boggled. but right now i have to go. see ya...

P.S. i am soooo glad i found this site!!!!!!!

i'm very glad that you recognize your limitations right now and haven't gotten a glider to end up having to get rid of it because you can't take care of it properly. i applaud you! i'm glad you found this site too. there seem to be alot of really nice people here and some good information. another really good site is http://www.glidercentral.net , and as far as diet goes... it seems to be pretty individual to me. some use one kind of diet, and others use another kind of diet, and still others go another way in feeding thier suggies. the thing that was impressed upon me/us was that a diet is only good to YOU if your own gliders will actually eat it! lol we've found that we absolutely love our little furry suggie babies! they are such little characters and each have their own unique personalities. they can be very interactive if you take the time to bond with them, spend time with them and meet their diet and health needs. they are amazing little creatures with very complex physical make-ups and needs. they are not for everyone! this is guaranteed! there are some people that will "think" they want them, that they will like them, that they can take care of them... but because they are very high maintenance, and their needs are very demanding and can be time consuming, they find out the hard way that it just isn't what they want or need to have. these little sweeties can lead a very long life when cared for properly, and they need to be in a stable, loving and competant home environment. if you come to a point of really believing that you can do what is needed, and you are in a better position than you are now, i would encourage you to someday follow through with getting suggies (plural, because they should never be kept alone!) and thoroughly enjoy them! and with all the research you are doing, if you decide that they aren't the right "fit" for you, well just chalk it up to experience/knowledge that you've aquired and go on to figure out what would be the best pet/companion for you. good luck in your quest/desire, and keep asking questions! that's the best way to learn! rho

Welcome! Glad to see your thoughts. People have opinions on all of those things you stated. Generally though, an animal is an individual and there really is no full accounting for individuality here. All sugars are not the same so you pretty much have to open the box and work with what you are dealt. I have recently been expanding my own horizons in regards to exotic kept animals, and in doing so, sugars are falling in the neat pet scale; not because I am bored of them, but because I am realizing how they are not a great pet and how many other species are. I think what I am learning is that humans generally keep pets to interact with. In the end, tiny little fussy, messy animals really dont win any prizes for human interaction. Something a bit larger suits better as a pet so that you can interact with it. I think this new year is going to bring us the possibilities of keeping some neat exotic animals from 1 to 10 lbs which are more practical for keeping and interaction than sugars.
