Subject: BROKEN/TORN TOE... PLEASE HELP US!
Posted by sadie on May 24, 2000 at 07:41:58 from 165.189.41.11

After clipping Wesley's toes early yesterday, and checking on him later that evening Wesley was stuck. His toenail is nearly torn off, and bleeding a bit. I didn't know what to do, after him biting and crabbing for what seemed forever, we got it undone. I gave him some sugar water to prevent him from going into shock, and then put some vitamin A&D ointment on after washing it with some antibacterial soap. I also have hand fed him some dinner. His appetite seems fine, and his activity seems fine with the exception of a little bit of slipping on their cage wires.

I do plan to take him to the vet, but I can't get him in until Friday afternoon.

WHat do you think? How do they usually treat broken toes? Is he at high risk for self mutilation?

If ANYONE can answer these questions, I would really appreciate it.

I am so scared for my little one, however, he seems fine. .... it's driving me crazy. He is just excited as ever to be out and around playing and snacking.

PLEASE HELP ME.

Thank you.
Sadie... I will keep you all posted
