Subject: What do you think?

I'd love to hear the opinions of some experienced owners. I visited a breeder today and got my first up-close look at some gliders. (Thanks to Dawn and Kim for your suggestions about what I should ask her.) They were every bit as beautiful and interesting as I had imagined! However, they had not been handled much and weren't very tame. They crabbed when the owner woke them up and wouldn't come out of the cage to her, even for raisins, not even her first and favorite to whom she felt especially attached. I put my hand in one of the cages and the female started gnawing on my thumb. (I didn't realize if you don't pull away they can just keep at it! She wouldn't stop until she was drawing blood. My first love-bite! :) ) I guess that's situation normal for a stranger, and she said they were better with me than with most strangers. She had a pair of males who were slightly friendlier -- one of them let me pet him for awhile before he started to bite me!

They seemed strong and healthy otherwise, and they seem to have been well-treated. She feeds them Brisky's glider food with some supplements sprinkled on and gives them fruit juice as well. They just haven't been handled or out of the cage much. She is selling a 1 yr. old breeding pair, a 2 yr. old breeding pair, and a father and son pair who get along well (the son is a year or so old). She owns one more pair, which she's keeping.

I'm looking for gliders as companions. What are the chances that these animals will form a tight bond with me? Am I better off looking furthur until I can find a joey or two? (These animals aren't easy to find nearby, and I'm getting impatient!) What about the idea of buying a breeding pair and letting them have a litter before I get the male neutered?

Thanks for reading this far and for your opinions!
