I'm not sure about sumac either, but if you had some kind of fruit trees around (apple or citrus), they would be best. And as for bedding in the bottom of the cage...I don't think you really need much of anything, since they spend most of their time up in the cage climbing around and sleeping in their little bed pouch or whatever you have for yours. I just use plain, unprinted paper towel in the bottom of mine...DON'T use newspaper though because the ink will kill them, and printed paper towels aren't good either!! Just remember to change it at LEAST every other day and it should be fine. :-)
