Any information on why I shouldn't let him eat them?

Yes there is. Lady bugs are colored red as a warning to other animals that it is either poisonous or tastes bad. I believe that Lady bugs just taste bad (to most animals), but it would be a good idea to be safe rather than sorry.

Also, he is seeming to bond very slowly. I have had him approximatley 6 weeks, and play with him every evening for about 4-5 hours.

I heard someone mention that night time is play time and day time is bonding time. If you do not carry him around with you during the day, he might be missing this important aspect of the bonding process. Is there any time of the day/early night that you are up and he isn't? If so you could utilize this time for bonding.

As for the candles, I am not sure about that one.
