Yes I aggree. Maverick and Dakota's cage is in the family room. Dogs and cat come and go. They are use to the cage but know It's off limits. The cat could care less, but I will not take the chance we leave he's out or the doors are shut to the room.

I absolutely agree with Kyro. No pets should be allowed to play with the suggies. I have a cat (declawed and very old) and a small dog in the house but when the suggies come out to play they get locked up in a different room. The suggie cage is in the living room but they don't bother it. I have heard too many people say they have lost a suggie due to a cat bite or the dog ate it. I wouldn't chance that for anything.

I'm the same way. Whenever the gliders get tent time, both cats are locked in either the bedroom or bathroom. I don't take any chances having them around. It's just not worth the risk. The cage is in the living room, far out of their reach, but at night when they are awake, we still move it to a different room where the cats don't have access just in case. In my opinion, you have to be considerate of the health of all of your animals, and I don't feel bad locking up the cats for the gliders, or locking up the gliders for the cats. I just try to make things equal for all of my pets.

Ironically, the safest pets in my place are the rats. Both cats are afraid of them. I can put their cage anywhere and not worry about it. lol

my dog is fully aware of them. he loves to sit and watch them when they are up. sometimes he will watch the pouch from the floor to see if anyone is going to get up. Tate and him have gone nose to nose. and than both just wandered off. One time he did startle her and she crabbed, but I've done that. He has never jumped on the cage or growled or shown any other aggression. They are not left alone though, thats mainly b/c Joker's tail does damage if he is left unsupervised. I live in a one room family room/work room/desk/everything room! So for me to keep him away from them is not possible. I would rather he knows of them. I don't see them meeting ever without the cage in b/w. I don't see Joker trying to kill them, just play with them and be to big for them. He would smoosh them. That's just my thoughts.

I was holding sugar one night and she came out on my shoulder. One of our cats tried to take a swipe and she jumped. Needless to say I was scared and always shoo the cats away when they are near. I keep all of our pets away.

Buffie, I think perhaps you're confused. * I know I often am *

Fleas were being discussed on another thread:

A new member just came in a day or two ago and posted about her dogs killing two of her gliders - one of them recently had joeys.

Please dont trust other animals around your gliders - its like having a ticking time bomb that may go off at any time.

I also have a housefull of pets. The cats are not allowed to even come into my room or bathroom (BR is now glider kingdom!). Maya our boxer does wander through but since the babies are usually sleeping or with me in bonding pouches she has little interest in them. She did come in my room during tent time the other night and sat quietly watching the kids running around. Sassy - my brave suggie made a flying leap at the dog which would have been a face hug if the screen had not been there! Maya was raised by the cats and is very gentle but she would smoosh a suggie just trying to love it with one big paw.

It might be fun to see how they get along but there is no way I am taking any chances with my little ones.

Oh, last night Maya did come in after the gliders were up running around and playing in their cage - Corky started barking and Maya sat looking at the cage with the strangest look on her face... "where is that other dog?"

We did have a minor cat encounter the other night during bathroom play time. Sassy & Corky kept going to the window and standing up like they were trying to see out - then I realized George was sitting on the other side of the glass watching them. I have a feeling that the babies would unwisely tease the cats if they actually met. Not happening here.

I vividly remember my childhood pet hampster who ran into my closet one day. One yowel from my cat and she had broken his neck. She was hiding in the closet and I did not even know she was in the house. Now I am over protective of the gliders.
