I know that lots of us have problems with fruit flies this time of year, them being attracted to glideer food and all. I am a bartender and the sweet loving suckers seem to have an extra special affinity to alcohol. I have been waging battle and after much research, seem to have found a solution that works.
In a glass mix a bit of red wine vinegar, a bit of orange juice, and a dab of dishwashing soap. Out of paper make make a funnel to place over you glass and seal all of the edges with tape between the glass and paper. Sit back and count the corpses. ( I know that sounds gross, but when you have been fighting them like I have you take great pleasure in this step!) They sink to the bottom of the glass, so to see if your getting results, leave the traps overnight and then look at them from the bottom. I'm telling you, this one ACTUALLY WORKS!!

So they can get in easily but not out so easily... The orange juice must be the attractant. The soap makes it so they cannot escape from the water.

This is a good one if it kills them!!!
I will have to look for that vinegar.
I have always used any jar or can.
Put a piece of fruit in it like banana put plastic wrap on the top with an elastic band and poke holes with I use a thumb tack. They get in but not back out and in the morning I throw it in the garbage.

I cant believe it they come out of nowhere!

Good Luck!

I found leaving a glass of red wine out overnight works wonders. They are attracted to the smell and they fly in land get drunk and drown immeadiatly. I figure if I'm going to be killing them at least i can get them drunk first.
