Get him to a vet As Soon As Possible. He needs to be seen to make the correct diagnosis and give the correct medications.

What do you mean you can't take him to the vet?

What kind of liquid vitamin? You truly can't just give them anything even if it is advertised for gliders.

How long have you had your glider?

What kind of cage do you keep them in?

Is there direct air flowing on them and what temperature do you keep your house at?

What are you feeding and what type of bedding do you use?

Hissing is normal usually. What does it sound like? Does it sound like a dry hiss or a spitting hiss? Does it sound like a cough? Does it sound like he has phlegm in his throat? Does the hiss rattle? Does he weeze?

How long has this been going on?

All of these questions are very important so please try to answer them all. You little guy might have pneumonia and I don't want to scare you but the survival rate is very low. It is VERY important to drive the little guy to the vet if he does have it.

Please try to answer all the questions.

I would imagine that in Singapore it would be hard to get a vet especially for sugar gliders. Even real doctors are hard to come by. Many people with advanced illness are given temporary Visa's to come to America to get proper medication. Its really sad though :(

This guy also posts at Glider Central. Here's what he put on on topic.
quote:
i am from singapore and they prohibits importing of exotics. Even i am keeing it illegally trying to hide from the eyes of the laws constantly a black market sugar glider ? yea, i think that is the best word for them. I got to be secretive about them, its just such a shame my country doesn't allow but this is the way of life i guess.

In other words, it is VERY illegal to have them there.( Not like in CA where you ould find a vet if you REALLY needed to and had one.) He would probably go to jail and who knows what. This guy is not thinking for the good of the glider.

I see you can not get the glider to the vet! And that makes his chances not so good if he is sick! If I were you,, then this is how I'd help him with out a vet! First, I take him away from the other glider because he can pass it to the female! I'd use a critter keeper with a heating pad under it (on Low), to make sure he is warm and cozy with towls covering the bottom. Keep feeding him his fruits and veggies, if he is not on the BML diet then I start that, and offer him chicken soup mostly warm broth! Keep both of them out of drafty places!! That is very important! Even to healthy gliders! I wish both your gliders the best of luck!

Sorry, it just seemed wierd that two different people from Singapore posted at different boards and were worded about the same. I was just posting that info for everyone so that they can know why you cant take him to the vet and to see what you are up against keeping him hid away.

get that cage out of that drafty area!!!bad bad bad!!! if that isnt possible, cover the cage with a sheet or a blanket.does he have anything coming out of his nose, like snot? he's probably depressed about moving to a new home & this can affect their health adversely. make sure to spend alot of time with him, give him lots of love & see if he improves. good luck!!!

Get him away from cool or anyplace drafty! Like they said, put a towel over the cage.

What brand of liquid vitamin? Is it human vitamins? If sugar gliders are illegal, I highly doubt they are going to have sugar glider vitamins for sale. My advice is to take him off those vitamins, and if you can import mammal vitamins to use those. If you can't find mammal vitamins you could even use RepCal and Herbative reptile vitamins. Try to get some Calcium in the little guys. But don't use HUMAN Vitamins!!!

Some sort of heat rock or pad is a good thing to use. Just make sure the cord is out of reach; you don't want them to shock themselves!

You are going to have to be extra careful with the little guys if there isn't a vet.

Good Luck and don't hesitate if you need us again.

he hisses? or crabbs?? the hissing noise is more of a question of intention, it isnt a bad sound, i have never heard of the hisss being a bad sound,, the not eating part, might be cause he is lonely, but the hiss dont necessarily mean he is sick,, my gliders hiss with eachother all the time in the pouch,, it is kinda a happy sound
