I know they don't make this anymore.. but does anyone have the label/nutritional information/analysis? I'm curious if there is anything similar on the market now, and can't find the info on the old cereal to compare. :(

I believe they still sell it in Australia? You could poke around Australian web sites and see what you can find.

It says here it is just not available....herrrrm

http://www.sugarglider.com/archives/ruth/diet.html

It also says it here which leads me to believe at some point this High Protein Baby Cereal was made unavailable and that is why Leadbeaters was modified...

High Protein Baby Cereal was discontinued over 10 years ago here in the US. Not much need to debate its nutrients now.

I do however have the 1985 edition of Bowes and Church's Food Values of Portions Commonly Used.

High Protein Baby Cereal had 0.9 g protein, 17 mg calcium, 15 mg phosphorus and 1.77 mg iron in a 1 TBS portion. (other baby cereals at that time had 0.3 g protein in 1 TBS)

Mixed Baby Cereal currently has 0.46 g protein, 27.4 mg calcium, 14.07 mg phosphorus and 1.78 mg iron in a 1 TBS portion

for comparison purposes

Wombaroo High Protein supplement has 5.2 g protein, 130 mg calcium, 90 mg phosphorus and 0.8 mg iron in 1 TBS.

I know it was discontinued (I said I knew they didn't make it anymore in my very first post).

Thank you for the numbers, but I'm still hoping to find the labels of the Heinz and/or Gerber high-protein cereals (I know Heinz as originally used in Leadbeater's, so I'm really hoping to find that one to peek at!).

You could always try contacting the companies via email and asking them. Perhaps they have archival information and could email it to you.

PLEASE be careful using any products made here in America for infants or toddlers. They tend to be "fortified in iron" in dangerous amounts for gliders. Gliders risk Iron Storage disease, and it can cause death.

I doubt anyone will have the labels for any brand of High Protein Cereal.

The labels would probably only give you ingredients as the product was discontinued before listing of nutrients the package were made a requirement.

I think I have mentioned this before but I will repeat again.

Heinz High Protein Cereal was discontinued here in Australia several years ago due to two facts - new Age mothers prefer the organic and rice based cereals over the old fashioned multigrain cereals they were brought up on so the market was dwindling and secondly since Heinz bought out Farex, they had no need to have two cereals similar in type on the market especially since fact 1.
I did chat to Heinz about this at the time so this is fact not speculation.

Heinz High Protein baby cereal was a brand name and in fact, did not contain significantly higher protein than other multigrain cereals on the market at the time - well at least here in Australia. People either used Farex or Heinz here for their artificial nectar mixes. I did feed Heinz HP cereal till they discontinued it and I changed over to Farex which is what most people were using here in the first place. Farex has 0.6g protein in 1 tablespoon if that is what people want to know.

The Heinz High Protein Baby Cereal used in the Taronga Zoo diet for the Leadbeater's Possum, which was later turned a Modified Leadbeater's Diet, has less protein in it, per the information that we obtained from the Heinz company in Australia, than the Gerber brand baby cereal used as an American substitute.

In short, American Baby Cereal has MORE protein than Australian "high protein" cereal. This has lead Americans to increase protein content due to the NAME of the product alone and not because of its nutritional content.

Kazko - where are you seeing the US cereal having more protein than the Australian High Protein Cereal.

The US Gerber has 2 g protein in 15 g dry cereal and the Au. High Protein Cereal has 3.9 g in 15 g dry cereal or about double that of the US current product.

Pockets (Debbie) has shared with me the information she has on the Australian Cereals. I cannot figure out how to put it in the gliderpedia so I will post here.

If someone want to add it to Gliderpedia, I will forward the files if you cannot copy from this post.

First are two PDF Files on the Farex and Heinz Baby cereal products. I have linked these on my web page.

And the Farex label

Thank you Debbie
