Well, I got him home from the vet last night at maybe half past eight local AZ time. I offered water and he drank some. He vomited it all back up. Along with part of the last apple that he ate. I figured rest is best and slid him into his sleeping sack. Maybe an hour later I hear rustling and look there, he is UP and eating! He vomited all that too. He went back to bed in the hood of my robe. Couple more times last night he got up, drank and puked. Maybe an hour ago he got up again, drank, ate a bite and kept it all down. I have called the guy I was going to work for today and told him, you don't want me working on your house after what I been thru. I plan on keeping an eye on the little poop for the rest of today.
On the minus side, I have had Max outdoors in warmer temps than what we had yesterday. But he was in my pocket. I was sweating a little, breeze blowing, so he was fine. Not yesterday. On the plus side, when I found him in distress, I got him to a vet in minutes. He was too dehydrated and overheated to manage to rehydrate himself, he needed help fast.
I myself have been way too overheated a few times. I am guessing he will feel a little wobbly for a few days, but I am optomistic that he has turned the corner. Thanks for all the warm thoughts and prayers!

Glad Max is feeling better. This is just my opinion but would it be best to give Max many small meals and drinks for a few days until he gets back to normal?? Maybe his system is just to tired and stressed and he would do better with multiple meals.

Thanks for all the warm response! Ya know, I was doing a project last spring. Max would be shaking the bars of his cage saying, "LET ME OUT" I WANNA GO WITH YA!" I would respond, look little dude, I am gonna be up on a sixty foot knuckle boom setting Z purlins in a windstorm. A tiny animal could get KILLED. Shoot, I could get killed. I don't care dad, I wanna go with you!!!! Later in the day in a calm moment he would pop out of my pocket look around and say, this view is AMAZING! Pop back down and curl up again.
There is a lengthy story as to how I picked that sleighr name, let's just say I am NOT a vegetarian. and yet............
Twelve hours ago I would not have wagered a twenty on Max being alive this morning. Yet here I sit, all dewy eyed with a snoozing possum in my pocket. He is grooming and snuggling and quietly purring. Life is a funny thing is it not?

Happy Landings!

I think a lot of it has to do with his relationship with you; from what you described, it sounded like he was really fighting all night. He wasn't ready to give up on you. :) I'm really happy this turned out well. Pets can be real heart breakers, and I'm glad this wasn't the case today.

Well, long story long, we went to the sugar group glider round up in Tulsa OK last week or so. I was trying to eliminate possible mechanical problems with taking my 93 jeep on a 2000 mile road trip. I was trying to fix a sqeak in the ac, and broke it altogether. Then took off from my home in Flagstaff to a project in PHX. Did not anticipate near 100 degree heat second week of March.

I was born in this incinerator, Shoulda known better.

As far as how Max is doing, I went to finish my project today. He rode with. He spent last night running rampant in my bedroom. Then crashing in the hood of my robe for a nap. Scooped him up and thought I would offer a treat. I stuck his nose in the mini meal worm farm I brought along. He kinda spit up a little. If you suggested I eat meal worms, I might react similarly, but usually he is stuffing them in his mouth as fast as he can chew em. He did eat his dinner, I have no idea if he kept it down. He has had a few licks of honey and a little water today. He seems alert and hydrated, and has not vomited again. For the ride home, I left him in his cage in the cool house while I loaded my tools till the last moment. I put a solid frozen polar pack in the bottom of his cage and set his sleeping pouch on top of it. I was wishing I had brought a second one for the seat of the Jeep! That's the long of it, the short of it is, I think he is getting better. Last time I got severly overheated I was kinda wobbly for a few days. I hve tried Pedialyte, he will not take it. If my stomach is jumpy, fruit juice is not a good idea. I had not thought of Seven Up till I was typing this up, but clear soda sure helps me... So far it's a
Happy Landing!

Oh yeah, he is not our only glider. He had a somewhat fiesty nature, and his (literal fur family) family decided he should be relocated. Have tried to find him a cage mate. Just have not tried hard enough I guess. That's why I kinda adopted him as a pocket son.

We really should have had lunch when you came through! I didn't really think of it.... anyway they do fine in the heat when tempered to it....100+ days and the girls don't get too hot but a summer type heat wave in this cool weather would surely get them. Glad to hear he is recovering, maybe while your A/C is broken you could pack along a lunch ice pack each day for him just in case? It would be an easy precaution.

Yeah, We should have! Email me if you ever head west toward Flag! I'll grill ya up a hunk of elk steak. As far as Max goes I did two stupid things, 1) came down without ac 2)should not have let him wander the jeep as I would if it were cooler. It never crossed my mind he would wriggle into the hottest spot in the car and just bake in my computer bag in the sun.
The one bright spot in this mess is I have found that there is a glider community in AZ! I have found a highly recommended vet. AND in the cool of the morning I am going from this oven back to my mountain!

Glad he is doing better thank you for the update.

I was just curious if he was a single glider as I had one for 6 yrs and now he has a cage mate. Is my guy happy yes and no Magoo wants it both ways!
