Anyone have any clever ideas to tell two gliders apart who look just Alike? I just got a set of twin sisters and they look exactly alike. The previous owner said she could tell b/c of personality but they are both very sweet to me....

Try to take a good photo of each of their faces and top of their heads.

It is much easier to study a photo of a glider than one zipping around the cage and trading places with each other constantly.

There are usually differences in the head stripe you can identify - crooked on one side or the other or one may have a wider head stripe than the other.
Some gliders have more black around their eyes than others or black bars from the eyes to the ears.

Another good clue is the distance between the tip of the head stripe and the glider's nose - usually one's stripe will end closer to the nose than the other.

I also look at their tails. One may have a longer black tip than the other.

My first pair looked much alike as well but one had a very long black tip and pointed tail, the other's tail appeared a little more blunt and had a shorter black tip.

It will not take you long to learn their habits and personalities as well.

You get to know them. It is no different than anything else. Over time you will come to know them each.

I have a hard time telling mine apart too! Haha
I can tell them apart by the stripe on their head. Tali's is wider and darker than Lilu's. But even being aware of that, I still find it a little difficult to tell them apart because they move so much.
So I usually go with personality when they are out playing haha
Lilu jumps on me as soon as I open the cage while Tali hesitates and thinks about it. XD
Tali is a biter (not sure is they're kisses because they aren't very hard and she used to bite soo hard) while Lilu never bites

If I get another one, I'm definitely getting one colored differently!

I'm glad I'm not the only one!! Thank you all for the great responses!! Being a cosmetologist my initial thought was to color dip the tail of one pink!!! Hahaha!! Of course I wouldn't do that to my babies but it would help!! I will work on getting good pictures of them both and with time learn their personalities!! Thanks all!!!

I have two boys, Gimli and Bane and at first I thought I was the worst human being ever to not be able to tell these two guys apart! After awhile, Gimli started curling his tail like a monkey all the time and Bane did not so it's easy to tell them apart now! Noticing little things like how Gimli has a shorter nail on his right foot because I'm not so great at nail trimming (lol) is a good way to tell your babies apart.

Over time you will start to notice little differences in both their personalty and physical traits.

However there is one safe way to mark a glider. If you only have 2 gliders you can cut the very tip of the fur on ones tail so that it is flat instead of pointed. That being said, use extreme caution when doing this.

I recently adopted a family of four from a rescue.its a mom and dad and their daughter and son. The little girl is easy to spot because her tail is short and she has a piece of her ear missing, she is also the smallest and most social and active. Although she hates it when you wake her up. Lol. The dad is the biggest and still has a somewhat prominent bald spot(the rescue had the boys neutered before we got them) but mom and son are easily confused. The bonding process is going really smoothly, more so than I could have imagined, especially after all the warnings about bonding with older gliders. I have been thinking about putting a drop of food coloring on the top of their head to help tell them apart. Is this safe?

They will just groom the food coloring off. It may not be good for them to ingest straight food coloring.

Read my post at the top of this thread for tips on ways to see differences in your gliders that will help you tell them apart.
