Hi everyone I am an exchange student from Canada, and I am currently living in Thailand.

This is a long shot, but has anyone gotten exemption from Canadian import laws to bring their sugar glider home from a country that important is currently forbidden. If so how did you go about it? was it hard to acquire? and could you give me some advice on how I should go about it.

I have looked it up on the Canadian governments website, here is what it says
DOCUMENTATION INSTRUCTIONS

The import of these animals from this/these countries is currently prohibited. A risk assessment may be required before the development of import conditions could be considered. If you wish more information on the risk assessment process, please contact your nearest CFIA Import Office.

Is there any hope for my case?

I hope you will be able to bring your gliders home with you. I am not sure any members of this forum have had first hand experience in importing gliders to Canada other than having them shipped from breeders in the US.

I would start with the above instruction from your post. It is very possible that that risk assessment has already been completed for someone else in your same situation that might help you get the necessary permits. Your gliders might be required to be quarantined upon arrival in Canada - which most likely would be a big expense for you in addition to the cost of transporting them since airlines do not allow them in the passenger cabin.

Do you know anyone in the states? I would say ship them to the states and drive half way from Canada to USA to pick them up... but I'm not sure how deep in Canada you are or what extent you're willing to go to take them home. It may sound tedious but that's the only thing I can think of on how to bring them home secretly.

Marisa - there are restrictions on importing animals to the US as well so that would not really simplify the process for her.
