so I met a very lovely breeder almost a year ago she answers my calls at 3 am and answers all my questions. She has a kind kind soul. I was looking to adopt a glider from another breeder in her location and she was very nasty to me when I told her where my other gliders came from. For example she told me to never buy gliders from her again because they are unliniaged but the 2 I got are papered and all of them are papered but 2 and she doesn't breed those two those are her pets. She said a lot more things to put me down so I discontinued my conversation with her but she wasn't the only one who had spats with a competitor. It's just so heartbreaking it makes me feel like all they want is the sale when they make another breeder look bad. Is the glider breeding world really that bad?! I don't want to breed but I sometimes look at other breeders for a certain glider and some are nice others are so nasty to you if you have already adopted a glider from another breeder.... Why is that?!

Honestly I don't know why there is so much drama in the sugar glider community. I try to stay away from most of it because I've seen it get pretty vicious. It's just part of the community, unfortunately.

Lineage is another hot-button issue, since there are so many lineaged gliders available out there, breeding unlineaged gliders is unnecessarily dangerous. The risks of unlineaged gliders (and possibly breeding close relatives without knowing) does a lot of damage to the lines, especially for breeders that work hard to keep clean lines. A breeder purposely breeding unlineaged gliders spits in the face of that and implies the breeder had their pocketbook in mind over the gliders well being. Perhaps the new breeder you spoke to was just over-stressing their concern over the breeding of unlineaged gliders? I know I personally would NEVER feel comfortable recommending someone buy gliders from a breeder who breeds pet store gliders/rescues/unlineaged, regardless of how they care for their gliders otherwise. It's just irresponsible breeding.

Also in my experience, if a breeder is cutting corners breeding gliders without lineage, it's more likely they're cutting corners in other places, too. (Vet/diet/safe wheels, etc).

I don't know the breeders you're talking about, but just some thoughts.

One thing I have learned is the online glider community can be VERY catty. People feel they are hidden because they are on line and can say anything they like.

There are however a handful of breeders that are known in the community for some very poor breeding practices such as breeding rescue gliders - then creating a fake lineage and entering the information into the Pet Glider Database to make their pairing appear to be well documented. Another glider forum (Glider Central) posts warning about breeders that are known for such practices.

There are other 'breeders' that are scam artists as well - accepting deposits or even full payment for joeys and never delivering the joey to the buyer.

I am sorry you got dragged into the middle of the argument. Just love your new joey and care for your gliders the best you can. They are your glider and neither breeder should be able to criticize you for your decision to buy from the other breeder.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately I don't think she was stressing about inbreeding it was more just talking crap.... :( because my first breeder doesn't inbreed she just went on and on about her two that weren't papered but she knows she doesn't breed them it's just crazy and breeders shouldn't really do that stuff
