So I got this new book called "sugar gliders or sugar bears" and it has all the basic info I need such as different diets, first aid, breeding, and much more. I was wondering if I should trust the info in this book? If anyone has read it or checked it out what do you think? Does it have accurate info?

Not sure if this is the same book, mine is Sugar Gliders and is an Animal Planet book. I didn't find anything to disagree with and some of their info was very thought provoking! They explained the difference between socialized and bonded.

If the title includes the term 'sugar bears' - I would not trust any of the information in the book to be accurate. 'sugar bears' is a term used by Pocket Pets to prevent the people that purchase from them from locating information on the internet - be cause googling 'sugar bears' will only lead to the Pocket Pets Web site.

The only useful book I have found was written by Peggy Brewer. You can contact her through her web page to see if it is still available.

Most other books are nature books written for children and not for actual owners of pet sugar gliders.

I would compare the information in the book to what is basically learned here. However, there are always going to be debated topics, and opinions that differ, but if the information seems way out there, then, no, don't trust it.

The book's title already contains mis-information. We are talking about SUGAR GLIDERS.

Would you buy a book titled Elephants or Huge Animal with a Trunk - Facts and Information - and expect it to give you valid information?

I'm part of the people who thinks you cannot judge the book by its cover (or in this case title).
Who knows why the name "sugar bear" has been included, it can also be seen as a way to reach out to people who only know that name and who would not find much valid informations else.
The only way to dge would be to read it and compare with other informations found elsewhere.

Ya know here lately I see a lot of criticism on how other people do things. Not on this group so much, just in general.

Frankly, there is more than one way to do something correctly. Just because I don't use the term "sugar bear" doesn't mean every bit of information in that book is incorrect.

If YOU find useful information in that book, no matter what word they use to label the animal then USE that information. If it sounds like something is a bit off and you don't want to apply it then don't apply it to how you do things. It's really that simple.

I read information all the time, some I agree with some I don't, and some I have changed my mind about. I take whatever part I learned that I can use and I leave the rest. That's what I get out of researching I learn, then ask questions if I need to then I make educated decisions about how I want to do things. How I want to do things maybe different than how you want to do things n that's ok!

I watched all the PP videos and found that a lot of the info was not what I expected or I felt it was a bit weird.... and some of it I could use.... Weeding out bad info is part of RESEARCHING, not just on PP stuff or books that use terminology you don't like. So take your knowledge where you can get it, and only apply what works for YOU. If you don't trust ONE source, look for another source and another and another and compare what ALL those sources are telling you and if your still not sure ASK someone.
