Happy news!

I've been working with a reputable breeder today to find Sebastian a cage mate. After going back and forth and a long phone call, I decided to adopt a 3 year old retired breeding female and her one year old daughter. The girls have never been separated and are very bonded. The momma hasn't had a mate in a long time, so the breeder feels she will be receptive to a new male (and there's no chance of a surprise conception).

Sebastian is going in for his wellness exam and fecal testing next Saturday. He's being neutered on September 1st, and the girls are being shipped around September 3rd.

This is the mother. Her name was Voo Doo, but I'm renaming her Mithril:

and this is her crème-ino het daughter, Marianne:

It'll be a slow introduction, but I think this will make a beautiful little trio once everyone gets acquainted. I'll keep posting updates on how this goes. Just keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well!

Thank you! I'm so excited and nervous. I'm hoping introductions go well. If it doesn't, then both girls will go into a new cage together, and Sebastian will have to remain a lone glider for now but I'm going to give it my best shot. Hopefully it will go smoothly and I'll have a happy family of gliders.

In the meantime, I'm going to order more pouches and another wheel so hopefully I can reduce any bickering.

Thanks guys! Today I made a new, larger dining room using one of those clear plastic cake travelling containers. It'll be much more roomy for a trio of messy eaters.

I have a trio, plat sisters and added a mosaic neutered male after having the girls for about a year. They are pure joy.

Best of luck!!!

Thank you Sebastian is about 2-3 years old and has never known another glider. He might have murky memories of being a joey, but that's it. Both previous owners kept him as a solitary pet. It's going to be very interesting to watch his first response when he realizes there are two girls in another cage in the same room. I truly cannot even guess what his reaction is going to be. I'd be interested to know if anyone has ever socialized a solitary glider that has never known his own kind.

One of mine was 2-3 when I adopted him and according to his previous owner he had never had a cagemate and had very little interaction. When he realized there were gliders nearby he was intensely curious and immediately started calling to them (and Gimli did the same back to him from the other cage). When I wore them in separate pouches it was the first time I heard the clicking/purring sound in gliders. He purred so loud! It was wonderful to put them together, and worked out instantly when I introduced them.
He does occasionally choose to sleep by himself still, but it's not often. Today my quad decided to sleep two in each pouch. In any case, I hope your introductions go just as well!

That is very encouraging, Kferg. It gives me hope! You also reminded me that I need to buy another bonding pouch...
