today i started my official bonding with my new boy. he wasnt happy one bit. he crabs at nearly every little movement i make. going to be getting his roommate tomorrow.. taking her to the vet monday morning. then going to let them be cage neighbors(putting their cages side by side). this'll be fun. im posting a pic of steve. he still has some fur missing on the top of his head.. but is slowly getting it back. i was told it was mostlikely due to a poor diet his previous owners had. really hoping the introduction with the new glider will go ok.

Steve looks like a very pretty boy. How long have you had him? I'm glad you're getting him a companion. Since she's a girl, you'll want to get Steve neutered.

Is there a reason you're not doing the thirty-day quarantine, in separate rooms? I'm asking because some conditions, the parasite giardia in particular, can take as long as thirty days to manifest. (Giardia can be contracted very easily, and is highly contagious. http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dpd/parasites/Giardiasis/factsht_giardia.htm .) If your new girl is carrying that parasite, you'd end up having two gliders to treat instead of just one. Also, by following the quarantine, you'll allow both gliders time to adjust to their new surroundings and to become familiar with you, before putting them through the stress of introductions. I highly recommend the quarantine period. It's hard to be patient through it, I know! But it's very important.

that fur missing on the top of his head is most probably his scent gland and it's normal. If he is fertile, the testosterone fuels the scent gland. After he is neutered and no longer producing that hormone, the scent gland dissipates and makes way for fur. the bald spot may disappear altogether over a year or it may jsut show a tiny diamond of white.

If they are both under 4 months, introductions should be easy. But if either of them is older be careful because they get more fussy and territorial when they get older. Let us know how old they are...

oh i am doing the 30 day quarantine. sorry.. just thinking ahead. i know all about the scent gland. this is not the scent gland as it was around his ears. as for neutering, he already has an appointment set up.

around his ears... sounds like that might be over-grooming

see thats what i thought.. over grooming. the vet didnt give me a for sure answer when he noticed it. basically said poor diet or over grooming. but it is slowly growing back.. which is why i figured maybe poor diet. but besides that he didnt seem to be affected by it, health wise.
