Hi everyone.. im new here & a new mommy. ive done a lot of research.. after the fact i got her from Perfect Pocket Pets there isnt much i can do about that now. the best is just hope&pray that everything works out as best as it can.

i dont know if im just paranoid because of all the stuff i've heard about them, or if that's normal.
i could barely sleep last night(first night with her) and she was awake in the pouch til about 10 30 i finally put her in the cage.. and she was only awake til about 12.. then around 3 i heard her up and about again. Could it be that shes just overwhelmed or something? shes awake & eating right now since about 7.. awh yay! i just looked over & she finnally got her first drink. i really hope its just me being paranoid & nothing more serious!

if anyone has any advice id gladly accept it.
i want the best for me and my "baby" hehe.

please let me know

also, i know i should really get a second one i just dont have the money for it right now, but as soon as i do she will be getting a little sister.

That seems to be normal for two reasons. One they do take naps instead of being up all night long. Also they do need some time to adjust to their new home. It can be a very stressfull time. When I first got my second one I was a little worried too because her first week home she seemed to be up all day long and sleep at night she eventually got use to her new surroundings and started displaying more normal behavior. I also want to add welcome to the forum and congrats on your new baby. I would also suggest keeping a real good eye on her considering where she came from she may be real young and not quite old enough to be seperated from her mother yet. You can also usually find gliders for cheaper on craigslist, hoobly and kijijy so you might not have to wait so long to get her a sister. Of course you will want one the same size as her before you can do introductions.

Hi aveexo -- I got my gliders from Pocket Pets, too..before I knew better.

What you need to do now is get your sugar glider into a vet, and onto a good diet ASAP. When you take her to the vet, make sure that you request a fecal smear and float. This is really important as many gliders from Pocket Pets are sent home with parasites (which could be fatal if not treated...BUT, not all gliders from Pocket Pets have parasites. I've had mine since October and they've tested clean and healthy multiple times).

Now diet. The diet that they gave you is no good. Have you done any research on diets yet?

Soon, you'll also need to purchase a bigger cage (or you can make one, some do that and say that it's cheaper.), as the cage is too small for even one glider.

Also -- toss the heat rock if you have not already.

The heat rock poses a danger as the glider could very easily chew on the cord, get burned from the rock, or the rock could short out.

What it is better to use is fleece sleeping pouches. Or a nest box filled with lots of little fleece squares.

Their are many different diets to choose from, mine are on the bml. I would suggest doing some research on diets and deciding which one is best for you and your girl. There is lots of information here on different diets. There are also recipes for a lot the diets under the resources tabs at the top of the page. It is pretty much a consences in the glider community that the pellets are real bad for your gliders.

I actually find pouches to be easier to get them out when the gliders not bonded to you. They go into the pouch, you just take the pouch right out with the glider in it... Pretty simple.

I fed BML for a little while but my gliders, currently I feed Candy's Blended Diet.

There are so many diets available and it is difficult to say which one is better than the other. Glide-R-Chow though is no good due to the lack of nutrition in it (it's mostly fillers). Anyway, you really need to do a little bit of research and try to get your gliders on a good diet ASAP.

Also, please consider getting her a glider friend. Younger gliders are more apt to accept another glider and bond to them. Just make sure they are very similar in size.
