So, sometimes when my little guy is alert and active in his cage (say, when I wake up for work first thing in the morning before he goes to sleep for the day, or when I put him in his cage for the night), I'll put my hand in there to say hello or give him a treat.
When I do, he does this weird thing where his tail sticks straight up in the air and he hops around on all fours (Seriously, it's ridiculous. He looks like Pepe LePew on speed.)away from me, then toward me, and back again. It doesn't seem like he's really afraid or anything. We're still in the bonding process, but he's figured out if he wants to be left alone he can go into his Wodent Wheel (Yes, we have the tail protector).
Is this normal? Is he playing "keep away" with me? Or is this a nervous thing? He has no problems climbing on my hand or eating out of it normally.I just want to make sure I'm not stressing my little guy out.
On a note that may or may not be related, he had his first wellness visit with the vet (I found one near Kalamazoo, MI who has actually worked with sugar gliders!) last weekend, and he has a clean bill of health. The doctor told us we were doing everything right so far, thanks to everything I've learned from you guys, my books, and Suncoast.
