Hey guys just thought I would share how my bonding process is going with my new glider
I got her about two weeks ago and boy was she a crabber...and bitter!!! Whenever I walked in the room she would start crabbing and wouldn't stop. Also when I talked to her through the cage, replaced her water, feed her, opened kiwis cage door, or just simply moved around my room! I gave her about 2 days to herself to settle in and get a little more comfortable with everything.
You should have heard her and kiwi that night....they talked all night....Kona would begin to cry and kiwi would respond by hissing or a short bark. Then Kiwi would begin barking for a good 10 minutes. It went back and forth pretty much all night. I had to go sleep in the living room
The next few days I began bonding. I would come home at around 4:30 pm and put Kona in the bonding pouch (with a treat of course!). She would crab the whole time....It was quite stressful for me and her.... However yesterday when I came home to put her in the bonding pouch, she didn't crab once! She let me rub her with my fingers while she munched on a dried coconut treat. Big improvement!
Just this morning was she showing signs of trusting me. I walked in my room around 7 (she had just gone to sleep) to put kiwi in my bra or sweatshirt for a bit before I left....and I walked over to Konas cage and I started talking to her. She then poked her head out of the pouch and sat there looking at me while I continued talking. I was soo happy!
One other thing, Kona is not a picky eater like kiwi! The second night I had her I took out the food she had been eating at the breeder and put in the Pricilla price diet that I make for kiwi. In the morning, it was almost all gone!
I will be doing intros this weekend... I have a lot of cleaning ahead of me....LOL . I plan on introducing them in the bathtub during the day on Saturday. I will clean both of their cages, then I am going to stack them for them to share.
