This might get long, for that I'll apologize right now
My first of 7 was Leela. Leela was a 12 week old joey, we got from a back yard breeder.
She is, well she's Leela lol She was pretty easy to "bond" with, inquisitive, psycho , escape artist, lovable, trouble maker, accepting, weather predictor, friendly with other gliders, shy with people. Her favorite place is my sweatshirt.
Next came Simon... a 4 year old neutered male from a glider rescue. He took longer to "bond" however, he was 4 yrs old never had toys, or a cage mate and hadn't really been handled much. After about 6 months he blossomed into sweet Simon. He required different things from me than Leela did. Simon was pouch protective, insecure next to skin, shy, scared, liked to be left alone. Now he loves attention, is no longer pouch protective, is more social, still would rather be in his cage it's his favorite place to be. He is a lover though when he's on me he loves being on my neck or wrapped around my hair clip on the back of my head lol.
The girls came next, Nicky and Amy Wong. 2 year old surrenders I was supposed to foster

they are Mine and not going anywhere lol...
Nicky is my biggest glider she was nearly 200 grams when she came to us. She is a biter, you can offer a treat and she will go for your finger first then take the treat lol. She is very independent and the most dominant of my 7 at this time. We are still "bonding" though we have had the girls for almost a year now. She has the potential to be sweet, when she wants to be. She's got the mentality of a cat lol everything revolves around her on her terms.
Amy, sweet Amy she had a rough time there for a while. She WAS the most submissive for a while and took some good thumps. But after some rearranging and new cage mates she emerged as the dominant of her trio ( no longer a trio ) Her personality finally started to shine through. She is very sweet, more out going now, but it took a long time and a lot of work. She will let you know if you irritate her with a quick nip and a bitchy look but for the most part she is sweet.
Lets see, Miss Pico came next, 6 month old surrender. We were desperate for a cage mate for Amy when I had to pull her from the quad I tried to make with the above gliders ^. Along came Pico, she was tiny and soooo sweet right away. She was so sweet I was shocked lol. Immediately trusting, no fear of anything, very inquisitive and gentle. Come to think of it that girl has never nipped us once. She must have known Amy needed her, a week after we got her she dove right in Amy's pouch and voilaaaaaaaaaaaa Amy loved her lol. I would say she was easy to bond with, however.... she is very difficult to pin down for nail trimmings. I consider nail trimmings as a sign of "bonded" so going on that were not quite there yet, but getting there.
Mr Pip aka Lemmy was our next glider. A member from here ( Blue nostalgic ) was having trouble with her trio.... and gifted me Mr Pip ( Thank you again we just love him ) who was renamed with her permission to Lemmy. He is such a ham lol Lemmy was always more submissive however recently I think he is challenging Nicky for the top spot in the colony of 6, all of the gliders I have spoke of so far are now in one colony. His whole personality changed when he came here, he began to climb, jump, glide... things he hadn't done at Blue's house lol she was surprised at the things he was doing. Originally I had him with Amy and Pico, but over time the two trio's decided they should all be together so I let them lol. Lemmy was easy to "bond" with but can get grumpy with the females in the colony, usually in the mornings when they are all going to bed.
Then came Danzig, now I wasn't supposed to be allowed to get another glider after Simon

so Danzig is sort of miracle baby lol. He was a 11 week old joey gifted to me from my best friend. She kept his brother so we could "share" her babies. Danzig was a little grumpy at first, a little pouch protective, but very sweet once he see's you. His temperament is amazing, very sweet, cuddly, easy to handle. Not quite "bonded" yet but coming along at his own pace. He is going to be neutered soonly so that will help then he can be introduced to someone from the colony.
The NEXT addition will be Cocoa Blanc. I knowwwwwwww right! Darrin's letting me get one more lol. Cocoa Blanc is one of Bourbons breeders Bourbon is gifting me at the OSGA in July and I soooooooooooo can't wait to meet her

While it may seem like my personal preference is females, I'm a little more partial to the males. For ME, the males have a nicer mellower personality. Females are nut jobs when they go into heat which is something to keep in mind. Males may stink more but once neutered it's no more than a female.
I don't feel males or females "bond" any different from each other. EVERY glider bonds differently than any other glider regardless of age, gender. A joey can be just as easy or just as difficult to bond with as an adult. Adults can be as easy or more difficult than a joey to.
Each glider is an individual, so get to know them as an individual. Learn what THAT glider needs from you and give it to them. Out of all 7 gliders, I haven't bonded with 2 the same way, and as I said earlier some are not bonded yet and may never be but I accept that. I don't put expectations on any of them, I don't compare them to each other, I learn who they are, and what they need and do my best to provide that for them.
One more thing, gliders change. If you get a glider or pair of gliders and the previous owner tells you things like... "she's mean" she may not be with you, "they snuggle and love to be held" they may NOT with you. " They never bite" they MAY bite YOU" " They always bite!!" They MAY NOT bite YOU. Take what ever the previous owner said about their personality and throw it out the window. When gliders go to a new home whether it's a joey or adult, their whole EVERYTHING has changed and that CAN change their personality too. Don't focus on what the were or where they came from. Instead focus on getting to know that glider individually and who that glider is when that glider is WITH YOU.
