Hey everyone,

I tried to upload a picture, hopefully it worked.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal? I'm trying to hand raise this rejected Joey and she is 7 days OOP. Her fur started to become all wavy about two or three days ago and her tail looks almost bony :( I thought maybe she was dehydrated so I did as recommended and fed her pedialyte for 24 hours, then started to add formula back in.

Her pee is clear now and her droppings look normal, not too hard and not too soft. For the tent test, the fur goes down after a couple seconds. She is very squirmy and active and I keep her tucked in my bra for a good portion of the day (she sleeps in an incubator while I am at work, but I come home on my lunch break to feed her. I can't take her to work with me :() I try to get her to eat as often as possible just in case. The fur is also soft to the touch, not hard or sticky. It is not very thick, but I am attributing that to her being so young. It's really the tail that is bothering me...

She does have a rather large cut on her face from her mother biting her, but I am treating that with special ointment from the vet that is non-toxic. My vet looked at it and said it didn't look to deep.

Is this normal or a sign that I am doing something wrong? I am feeding her the formula from Suncoast's website.

I look forward to your comments!

Elba

interesting, I'm not a seasoned breeder but I've not seen wavy fur like that... Maybe ask in a breeders group https://www.facebook.com/groups/breeding101/ this is a really nice, no drama group for breeders and learning to breed. I'd be interested to see what they all say

This one really intrigued me so I asked some long time breeders about it and showed them this pic. One breeder has had tails with wavy fur like that but not all over the body, she was really excited to see it like that.

She also said it's nothing to worry about and hers that had wavy fur all their tails all went to normal fur as they matured, so essentially it changed to normal as they grew. However, with yours being all over the body she is very interested in update pics as the glider grows and honestly I would love to see them too !!

Actually there are 2 people aside from myself https://www.facebook.com/sherri.saarinenlamb?fref=ts Sherri is the one with wavy tails

https://www.facebook.com/peggy.h.brewer?fref=ts Peggy is actually considering doing a scientific study on fur. She has a pair of melonistic joeys with different fur than our typical joeys.
