Hello
Girl friend and I rescued a three year old male from a family that bought him on a whim and now has decided that they do not have time for him. Seems to me to be a little over weight from being in a small cage and lack of exercise. Does not seem too be very active at night either. Bonding has not been any kind of an issue. The first night when he woke up he crawled into my hand as I was introducing myself to him. He has not crabbed at made much fuss at all. I replaced his pouch the next day and made him a new sleeping spot. Today he seems a little more inquisitive and has actually explored me and my GF some.
My concern is he is not eating much. I am thinking this might be new owner jitters but concerning. He has barely touch any of the food he has been given. (HPW) Of the fresh fruit and veg I have put out he seems to only have eaten the grapes. I am removing the food in the AM and giving it back at night. Water intake has also been at a minimum. It is at the end of day three days.
Am I just being an overly concerned papa or should I be seeking a vet?

I also rescued a glider about two weeks ago. He barley ate for the first week. This week he has finally started finishing the food I've been giving him.

Give him a few weeks to adjust. If he begins eating more then you're fine. If he doesn't then you might want to take him to the vet.

we took in 3 gliders awhile ago.
gave them Hpw with fruits and veggies.
they ate the HPW ok at first. but barely touched the fruits and veggies for
about a week. then it was still a MONTH it seemed like before they really started eating well.
NOW they spit the HPW all over the kitchen walls, and I give them slightly more then normal HPW since they eat it all.

some veggies, like green beans look uneaten sometimes but the center is gone, same with some peas, seems like some are good at eating inside and leaving outside untouched.

you could get some gala apples and try to hand feed them a peace or too at night. our stuff is all frozen so sometimes I give them fresh and they like it better.
Glider drink only a little water, they get most hydration from food.

Note: unless he is sick, I think it is very rare that an animal will starve himself to death.

I guess my new dad jitters were just that. Mango is eating well and getting very curious about his new home. Have learned he is an early morning pet as he does not like to start moving until 10-11pm and is up usually till 8am. He has also decided to try and press his dominance by nibbling my fingers when we first get together each day. All in all he is settling in well.
