Looking for some feedback. I took my 6/7 year old female glider to the emergency vet last night for wheezing, labored breathing, weight loss, lethargy and a purple nose- I was thinking pneumonia or a upper respiratory infection.

They put her oxygen and she perked up pretty well. She was transferred to the exotic vet today and when they called and brought up the possibility of heart disease, they will be taking an x-ray today. I can find very little info online about heart disease.

How common is heart disease in gliders? Has anyone had a glider live on medication or is it a death sentence?

Hello, sorry for the late reply...
Heart diseases are not common, but they are not unheard of.
I've known of 2 gliders, 1 with a congenital heart disease and the other with a heart deficiency caused by years of protein lacking diet.
It is not "treatable" per se, but it is not a death sentence either, it can be stabilized with medication and they can still live during years.
