Unfortunately things have taken a left turn today. I woke up early again and found Leela on one of the wheels so I went and grabbed my phone to get a morning video and once the flash turned on I found that her belly looked like this. It doesn't seem to have a smell, or feel wet

She is super wired, full of energy, taking melon, not dehydrated, her eyes ears nose n mouth all look good bright and dry. Her belly is actually dry it just looks "wet" Simon was neutered before they were introduced in Oct, He looks fine. There should be nooo chance of joey's, though some say it looks like she was licking a joey trail.

I have already made a vet appointment today at 4 Darrin is leaving work at 230 so we might get there a little early. We JUST had them to the vet like 4 weeks ago for a wellness exam, fecal came back fine. And out of the blue this happened, Her belly did not look like this yesterday I had all of them out and checked them all over yesterday.

I'm not sure if Im really asking for advice or just trying to keep busy so I don't drive myself mad waiting for Darrin to get home... and to let everyone know to please check your babies every morning, things change quickly symptoms can appear over night!
and can be treated when caught in time. I never expected to wake up this morning and see her like this she has been healthy since we got her last June not even anything minor has gone wrong with her.

I took this of her face after I saw her belly I can't seem to get a better pic of her belly yet. Please keep us in your thoughts today...

Goodness! Please keep us posted! (of course)

Her little face sure looks bright and well.

It is very good advice to check them out in the morning. Often I only check them over good at night, and in the morning just check out their sleeping arrangements and remove food bowls and examine how well they ate...basic routine without giving much thought to checking them physically for something that could have happened during the night. Which...it makes total sense because more would happen at night that could end up "festering", so to speak, during the day until they were checked again at night.

So yes, thank you for that reminder! And I will definitely have you in my thoughts!!! You're a great mama...she's going to be good as new. Very curious as to what this is.

Thank You Blue, Yeh me too. I'm thinkin bacterial infection but I'm not sure, honestly looking at the pic on here where it's bigger it does look like a joey trail but I can't image that being possible after all this time. Simon had a pom off laser neuter a week before they were introduced. The new girls bellies are pristine white! even though their backs are a little brown... And they've been no where near each other.

The cage and wheels have all been clean and sterilized with a steam cleaner recently, I just don't know! The pouches all get rotated n washed I'm just lost on what and why.

I tried to get in at Candy's vet but they couldn't see her till Monday. So we are going back to the one we saw for their wellness exam and if they don't know what the hell they are doing I'll have them call a consult vet before I flipp out on them.

Simple idea, but what did they have to eat last night? I once found my Leo with the fur all stuck and dirty one morning, and it was a leechee he brought to his sleeping pouch and slept over... have you tried to gently clean it to see if the stain goes away?

Bacterial infection seems odd to me, as it would imply an infection of the skin or UTI, in which cases her fur would be wet, not just looks so. Could possibly be yeast infection, but I doubt it could appear overnight to such a large area.
Were your Simon not neuteured, I would have assumed that he just went on an agressive overmarking session.

About joey trail, female gliders have been known to have the ability to freeze an embryo's developpment, I recall Pricilla Price exlaining that she once had a female -who was living in an all female colony- give birth to joeys...10 months after have been housed with a male for the last time.

Thanks but no it isn't food related, they had staple melons n mixed veg last night.

We got her at 12 weeks oop on June 20th last yr, that was what were told anyway she's always been small so I never questioned it. She has been with Simon since Oct. I mean I know it's possible but that would mean she was extremely young if one of the males that she came from nailed her. It just seems unlikely to me. But honestly looking at a female giving birth on a video that's what her belly looks like. I am probably grasping at straws but I just looked her over and her belly looks much better than it did earlier.

Remains Simon, you said he was neutered 1 week before introduction? It seems like quite many unlikely eventa, but it is possible that he was still fertile by then, and that Leela being a bit young, the embryo(s)'s developpement got frozen until she gets older.

Hopefully the vet will come with a better answer. Please, keep us posted.

We are home, Leela is fine and gained some weight since the wellness exam she is now 98 grams she was 82 grams a few weeks ago

By the time we got there Leela's fur was almost looking normal Darrin and I think it looks a little brown but it wasn't wet looking. Her pouch looked fine ears eyes n nose looked great! No sign of ear mites or anything, her skin didn't look irritated or red or anything. So Vet said the pic from this morning was a little concerning so if it happens again or anything changes to call and there will be antibiotics waiting at the counter for us.

I still have noooo idea what happened, but I will be keeping a close eye on her Thank You everyone for keeping us in your thoughts and offering suggestions and advice !!! I really needed the support today

Way out there cause we have a glider that will pee on herself cause she don't want to leave the pouch. Could she or Simon been scared by a sound or smell and just peed on her so it look liked that and once you came in she jump out of the pouch.

She wasn't in a pouch, when I woke up she was running her butt off in the wheel, so I went n got my phone to take a video and then she planted her self on the cage wall in front of me, with the flash on from the cam I could see her belly... It was still kind of dark in the cage, but bright enough in the room I thought the flash wouldn't bother her at 7ish this morning so until I had my phone we couldn't see there was a problem. I really don't know, someone suggested she peed in the wheel and it just sprayed her belly but I don't know, she didn't smell and didn't "feel"wet when I got her out.

It's almost like she groomed the hell out of her belly until it was wet, then over time it dried and fluffed up again.

Looky Looky!! Still not perfect, but looking sooooo much better!!! She's still acting a little squirrely but I think some of it has to do with the barometric pressure change yesterday to today. There was a big drop then a spike in a short amount of time.

So glad the vet checked her out to be sure. I guess the most plausible to me would be the pee in the wheel idea. I've started hanging a piece of fleece on the inside of the cage in front of the wheel because it was flinging 'stuff' out in front of the cage.

That and the grooming and drying scenario both make sense.

I think so too, I should prolly feel a little foolish for panicking but I don't.

The vet was even happy we brought her in just to make sure. She said she doesn't usually see people doing that, they wait until it's to late and not much can be done.

The vet got bit, the vets assistant got bit ( He was biggg guy but handler her so gently) and I even got bit on my knuckles

I did learn a new trick though... If you have a biter when your clipping nails just give them something safe to bite on!! The vet assistant guy gave Leela a ball point pen to bite on while they examined her ears and it did distract her I was like heyyyyyyyy now there's an idea!!

Leela doesn't usually bite but she doesn't like being examined by strangers. She even glided to Darrin like "Dadddddddddd save me!!!" then back to me lol.

So Leela is almost back to bein herself today. Her belly looks great they both ate better last night too. She was still a little off and I found her sleeping by herself this afternoon, but I think she got to hot in the fleece tunnel in the castle with Simon so she moved to a cooler spot. Hopefully she is back to full speed tonight, she's gotten some good sleep today
