I have 3 sugar gliders, and my Male sugar glider, crash, can never be handled by me. I've had him for well over a year, and he still hasnt bonded to me. He bites me all the time and doesnt like me at all it seems. I've tried everything to bond with him, and also every time I try to pick him up he runs away. I need help with this problem and one other thing. It's that time to clip his nails. My other 2 are pretty fine, but I got to him and I just couldnt get him to sit still. I tried to give him cheerios but he wouldnt eat it, he just tried to get away from me. He bit me as well. I tried a method of wrapping him in a blanket, but he just squirms away. I could tell that he was stressed, so I just had to put him away. Does anybody know what I could do?? Its been a struggle every single time with him, and I feel like I might have hurt him just to get his nails done on accident. I just dont want him to be stressed, and I also want him to bond to me for once. Thank you for any info.

I've had issues with a few gliders, very stubborn some of them, very scared
of humans no matter how much you try.
I will say this, live mealworms, or even dried ones can really help.
I have one now, scarface, she just runs and hates being held. but for a tasty
live mealworm she will come all the way to the edge of the cage, get close
as she has to and even put a few feet on my hands to get the live mealworms.
but it is a slow process, I make sure to shake the plastic container, so the
gliders know the sounds of treat time and come running. then always see how
far you can push them to get closer to you or your hand.

As for nail cutting, I use a fleece towel (blanket) and just hold them
tight. (you can hold them tight but in a way not to hurt them.) I also have two
people cutting nails, me the holder and my wife the cutter. I put one hand
around head and put my other hands palm to the butt, so they can't reverse out.
then hold the nails out to be cut by my wife.

I want to make one additional comment.
we had a colony of 5, 4 of them had been together before we got them for a
long time, we added a 5th. after several years 2 colonies was to much and we
sold 3 to one person and 2 to another. after a few months one female of the
group of 2 killed the other.
we also rescued a colony of 3 long ago, we rehome 2 to a friend, but after
a few years they could no longer keep them so we took 2 back. we had them for
another year before we found a new person to rehome them with. these 2 had
been together for a LONG time. I just got news the alpha female killed the male
after being at the new home only a few months.

I don't know whats going on at these places, I have been blessed to not have
these issues, but it does seem that if the gliders aren't in the correct environment
bad things can happen.

favorite treat work best for bonding I give tiny marshmallows and rub on them as they munch away ( yes I get nipped a lot ) But after a while they realize I am not even or there to eat them. they do crab and bite more when nail trip happens still but not as much they will crab a lot because who likes to be restrained?? I actually offer a treat ( something different during nail trims to keep their mouths busy and after each trim with no biting they get something special as a treat and cuddle time.
