OK - so been trying to get my 'mom' Sugar Glider, Piper, to give up her feral growling [aka "crabbing (sic)"] and she's come a long way... using taming techniques to get her acclimated to human voice/noises, human touch, etc.

HOWEVER, I recently discovered a useful 'tool' that definitely helps snap her out of her feral growl that she does only when she's in her nest/bedding (besides my having to dump the entire nest/bed of all Sugar Gliders including hubby, Aerrow, who joins in for support... sheesh! Once she gets going she becomes a holy terror - snapping at the other Sugar Gliders, rising and falling in growl intensity, etc.... my poor baby girl, Starling, usually bails out when she starts up, and occasionally even Aerrow will too...) ~ the tool? Music!

Well, not so much music but the melodic sounds I can make using my harmonica. Yep, a harmonica that, even though I don't know how to play an actual song with, I can play some 'melodies' that calm her and actually lulls her back to peaceful co-existence (no longer growling, snapping, etc.). I usually play something slow and on the low side of the thing. Getting pretty good - maybe sooner or later learn a friggin' song, heh, heh!

Piper has finally gotten where her 'growling' [aka crabbing(sic)] happens now less frequent and the duration is a few seconds - the snapping at others in the nest/bed seems to happen less as well...

The harmonica helps calm her anxiety, and sometimes I 'sing' to her [I know - don't quit me daytime job, eh? heh heh] which gets her to stop. Seems to work on Starling (daughter) as well, who joins-in when Piper starts up, as 'support'.

Haha, cool! maybe try putting on some harp music, like Nadia Birkenstocks "the glow whitin"? That's THE most soothing music out there, according to me! It would be fun if you found out what instrument/singer/type of music most popular among suggies, and of course the individual's faves!

A lot of animals and even plants are actually shown to get better life quality if they listen to music-espacially music they like. So maybe music should be a part of those bond-with-your-glider programs out there? Like, as soon as they come to you you turn on some soothing music in their prefered vollume, so that for them owner means lovely, soothing, fun, nice music and treats? That's a motivation for them, I would think! It would be fun to try!
