There are several issues at hand here. Feel free to answer to one or more.
I recently adopted two little female sugar gliders named Lilou and Pipa. They have been through a lot of stress. They have been given away (abandonned) to the city Aquarium which, not having a suitable environment for them, decided to find someone to look after them. They are probably respectively 6 months old and 1 year old. I don't know what they used to eat with their previous owner. So they are not of ideal bonding age, have moved twice hence changed caretaker twice, have most likely abruply changed diet, so I know I am starting off with a problematic situation. I have read a lot on the net about them, got books, have found some possible vets to take them to (one is experienced but lives an hour and a half away from my place by car (I don't drive) one is willing but little experienced but is easily reachable by bus). I am doing my best to give them the best. I am building them a 5'x3'x20" cage. They are still in the Aquarium's cage (38"x18"x18") because I had read it would make the transition less stressful.
1. Lilou has a ring of hair missing close to the tip of her tail and the skin is raw and red. (parasites? self mutilation? cagemate mutilation? Please give me any relevant info or links about this). (This missing tail hair was already there when I got her). (I want her to see a vet but it's stressful and the more I read, the more I can help the vet. Is there an ultimate sugar glider vet who would answer my vet's questions on the net or phone?
2. I got a Haba safe wheel yesterday. Lilou went in. She not only runs but leaps in it ; and she goes so fast that she ultimately gets ejected on the cage wall or floor every time and it scares me atrociously. Is this what they usually do in the wheel? She kept going back and, worried she would get injured, I took the wheel out of the cage. I am thinking of padding the new cage near the wheel, so the falls would be less dangerous.
3. Pipa runs in circles on the ceiling a lot. Lilou too but less. I know you need more info. I will give more in the next message I post.
