Buyer beware!

I had given my poor baby girl, Duchess, some Gliderade on Tuesday and when we came back home from work we found our Sugar Glider dead. At first we didn't know what to do, so we went and looked through her stuff, everything was fine until we came up to the water tube. When we read on them everyone suggested to use a water tube. When we bought Duchess the old owner's gave us some Gliderade and gave us the instructions, before we knew it we really had a Sugar Glider. Aside from all that, we rolled our finger to get water out and it was bone dry. We knew she had passed from dehydration. We took it out and the Gliderade had jellied pushing all her water up to the top.

In loving memory of Duchess,

DuchessTheGlider <3

Please post here your stories! I'd love to hear some after losing my girl.

So sorry for your loss.

We have just added a second water source in our gliders cage so now we have a regular water bottle and a bird one like GliderLove94 gave the link for, and we give fresh water daily in both and check them to make sure they are working properly.

Terribly sorry, I began using two bottles after I had heard of this type of tragedy.

Glide free Duchess.

So sorry for your loss.

She had dehydration, we noticed her water had jellied on Tuesday, I can't remember the day we put it in, I believe it was saturday. Yes, we still have her body.

I will never use the hamster type water bottles, only the bird ones that are similar to this http://compare.ebay.com/like/121029506092?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar . They come in different sizes, types, and colors. I highly recommend them.

Thanks GliderLover, I have had bad experiences with the water bottles, we almost lost our ferret because of it. We use a water bowl for her, but still the bottle for out boys, but I squeeze it and check it every day to make sure it's working properly, but think I will switch to the bird type you posted. You just never know when the berring will give out and your water bottle won't work anymore

I believe so. Duchess will be forever remembered.

In the Gliderpedia CAGE article it does suggest to use two water bottles in the cage. And I just created a new article for Water Bottle with a link here for reference. Anyone please feel free to edit on these articles.

Sorry for the loss. I'll bet your next cage will be a water park for the little critters. :)

Alrighty, getting ready to possibly get my pair tomorrow! Pictures and drawings of Duchess are on my fridge.

Gliderlove94... I was thinking of switching to something like this but I was nervous that my little ones would get confused and not realize where their water was. Was the transition easy?

Thank you so much! I'm getting a pair possibly tomorrow, I will try a different dish for their water.

Luckily that little voice told you to look! Duchess will be forever remembered.

So sorry for your loss. ((Hugs))

I can attest to the fact of the ball getting lodged...this very thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully, I keep 3 in my colony cage as well. I too remember thinking that the extra bottles were not needed since my little ones are partial to only one bottle and rarely use the other 2. Luckily I listened to the little voice in my head (the paranoid voice actually) that told me to leave the other 2 in there...just in case.
Thanks for sharing your experience...it may just save someone else's little one.
Again, I'm very sorry for your loss. Rest peacefully Duchess

That is tragic! I am so sorry for your loss!

Edit: I have two gliders and three water bottles. I was thinking the other day maybe I don't need to keep multiple bottles in the cage but now I definitely will. I don't put anything but water in them but I have heard of cases where the ball gets stuck. Again, so sorry you lost your girl.
