quick question! i couldnt seem to find a straight up answer online..

but do female sugar gliders bleed a lot during their periods like how dogs do? just wondering! we might get a female as a friend for my Squirrel 8)

i dont think they do that. and i hope that Squirrel is just your gliders name lol.

we were just worried about the mess it will cause if they do bleed during their periods like dogs.. bc my bf said his old dog bled a lot during periods and it was very messy.

gliders are marsupials so they are nothing like dogs. i only have males but i have never heard of female gliders having a period and only males get fixed.
and they do bleed but only from an injury like any other living thing lol. : P

lol i meant bleeding during menstrual periods not from injuries! lol that would be cool if they didnt bleed from an injury though xD immortaalittyyy!!

we were debating male or female for Squirrel's new friend... but Squirrel already has an odor to him as it is bc of his scent glands.. so we decided female.. but then we were worried about the whole menstrual/bleeding thing. so marsupials dont bleed during menstrual periods? hm! ok!

well if you are getting a female because of you males musk you are just going to make it stronger. if there is no females around then it will decrease but if you put a female with him his musk will increase cause there is a female present which means mating time. the only way to fix this is to get him fixed then it will go away completely. you will need to do it anyways to avoid having joeys which isnt an easy thing to do. neither of my boys are fixed but since its just them they dont have stink as much and their bald spot is smaller then it used to be (they were with their mother before i got them)
and cute name. do you have any ideas of names for your new glider?

ohh i seee.. well we were planning to get him neutered first before we got the female.. but the appointment would take awhile to make, plus i went away for a dance competition this past weekend and left squirrel with my mother, and when i came back he seemed super lonely. my mom also said he was barking, which he's never done before, so we've decided to get him a friend first asap and slowly introduce and monitor their time together, theeen get him neutered week after, or whenever i can get an appointment in!

I would think they would have periods but thats just a guess. If they do ,I doubt there would be enough blood to even notice.

Please read up on introductions. There is a lot more to it then just putting two gliders in the same cage together. And if you put him with a female, since they go into heat every month, you will probably wind up with joeys before you realize it. You also want to give your male some time after getting fixed, as for a few weeks following surgery, he could still technically impregnate her.

oh really?! crap. i didnt know the weeks following surgery were dangerous too! yeah i was going to read up on it (all i know is it takes a couple days to.. a long time.. depending on gliders) and slowly let them make friends first. i dont want squirrel lonely!!!! thats the only reason why i even risked getting his friend before the neuter. i was just going to monitor all their activities after they get used to each other and keep them in separate cages until the operation so they cant make babies behind my back when i sleep >:B .

The only one who will know that they are "on their period" is the female glider herself. You won't be able to tell.

No, sugar gliders do not have periods.

Even if you got your glider fixed now and got a female tomorrow, you wouldn't have to worry about breeding because you have to go through a quarantine period anyways.

They need to be checked twice for parasites and be kept in seperate rooms for a month...

The quarantine is very important, even if you buy from a "reputable" source as parasites can be spread easily are are quite deadly...

Because they're not placental mammals, I think it's likely that marsupials don't bleed during estrus. The purpose of the blood is to prepare the placenta for a fertilized egg; when that doesn't happen, the blood discharges.
