lol

Anyway, since I was unsure about if I'd need to rescue the pair that I'm keeping an eye on & giving their owner a hand, I posted an ad on Craigslist saying that I'm looking for a sugar glider (or more) that need a new forever home. (I recieved 5 responses from people thinking I was selling Fritz! You'd think that they couldn't read! Grr, but anyway...) I was contacted last Thursday by someone with a pair that he was looking to rehome because these tough times have forced him to take a 2nd job & he no longer has time for them.

The grey is the male, he's neutered. I'm thinking of naming him Quinn (as his current name is WAY too long & WAY too serious for a sugar glider in my opinion, lol). He was recently injured (all healed up now) and the vet care has hurt his trust in humans, so he's going to need some TLC.

The white faced blond is female. I'm thinking of naming her Nia (as her current name is more fit for a chiwawa, eck, lol). She's completely bonded & friendly. Their owner called her his wild child, lol.

Note: I WILL be doing a 30 day quarantien. During this they WILL recieve a vet checkup & fecal test (Fritz just recieved a clean bill of health so he will not be getting another checkup). I WILL be follwing standard introduction procedure after quarantien (swapping bedding, seperate bonding pouches at the same time, out of cage time in a neutral playground, & most of all patience & close moderation).

And I'll be sure to keep you all updated. :D

Question...how do you tell standard greys apart? My fear is that I'll start confusing Fritz & Quinn. o.0 Hopefully their personalities make it easier.

Thanks for the congrats!

I also love the idea of the coconut hut...just need to find an empty shell (I dispise coconut & buying a whole one just for the gliders seems wasteful).

She is totally adorable. :D

I'm getting waayyy too excited, lol. :D

Congrats!

Telling grays apart is far more easy than you think! They'll have their own personalities, but they will also have other physical differences. One might be bigger, or have a wider stripe, or have darker ears ... stuff like that.

Congratz!

For the price a made coconut hut, you could buy at least 3-4 coconuts and make them your self. I bought a coconut today for $1.50 at walmart.

Nope, I wasn't able 2 help there. These are from VA.

20000names.com is where I found their names. Fritz & Quinn are Irish names, Nia is Scottish. :) Yes, I'm a little biased to my Celtic Heritage?

Have you looked at them both closely? Like noticed even a small difference in their faces? A more narrow stripe on one? Omi has a fatter face than Kai. Thats how we tell them apart. Sometimes kinda hard still. The one that whines is definitely Kai. My daughter calls him Kai-baby for cry-baby.

Ah, once I am able to meet Nia & Quinn I'll be able to take a closer look. Weather permitting, I should be able to see them Sunday. :D It looks like Quinn has a small sent gland, so that will be an easy indicator of who's who as Fritz never developed a visable one. I'm letting myself get WAY too excited about this. :D

Ok, so by now EVERYONE who's a FB friend, co-worker, etc knows I'm rehoming 2 new snuggies. :D

They must think I'm obsessed because I am having trouble talking about anything else (much less thinking). I'm getting antzy. I SOOO want to meet them. This is even worse then me having to wait a month to pick up Fritz. lol

I'm also getting excited about the first time I'm able to watch them interact. Damn that necessary 30 day quarantein. lol (Yes, I will still abide by it as I don't want Fritz getting sick because I was impatient.)

I know so little about them...I know Quinn decided to take on a Great Dane much like Fritz took on my Mom's German Shepard, lol! Hillarious but stressful at the same time. And Nia's current owner called her his 'wild child'. Whatever he means by that.

I want to meet them & learn their personalities! Fritz is so engaging and multi-dimensional himself that it's a blast every time I get a new insite into his little mind. It's going to be so much fun learning about 2 more. :D

Yeah, ok...I think I'm done speculating now...got it out of my system for now. lol :D

Ok, I think I may be over thinking this...but what should I do to prepare for the arrival of Nia & Quinn?

I'm going to keep them in my 18x18x30 travel cage until they can be moved into the larger cage with Fritz. It's temporary & they'll get a lot of out of cage time. The cage poo tray is lined with fresh newspaper & baking soda.

And the temp cage is already set up in the other room of my apartment (the main cage where Fritz lives is in my living area, their temporary cage will stay in the bedroom - I've got an aprox. 200sq. ft. apt where the only other 'rooms' are the bathroom & the two closets, one of which also is the laundry room, lol.) Fritz will not be allowed in the bedroom (though I'm mentally prepaired for him being his normally mischevious & curious self, lol).

I'll make them a couple vines that I'll put in after I can install the stealth wheel. I'll also create a little play bin with cut up straws for them.

The kitchen is made & ready to use & I have an extra bowl for them to use.

I'll also make an extra sleeping pouch just in case (you can never have enough of those!) Along with this I'll give them small strips/pieces of felt that they can use as nesting material as they see fit.

I also have some eucalyptis leaves & branches that they can have.

Food is all preped and I have treats (might go out for some extra yogies in case I need extra bribes, lol).

Vet knows that they're coming & that I want a checkup apt. & fecal exam early next week.

Is there anything else I should do to prepare for their arrival? Or am I over thinking this just a wee bit? lol

Congrats on finding friends for Fritz. He'll likely be happier than being alone.

IF the male is neutered then the scent patches will grow hair again. Are you positive he is neutered? I can't remember if Fritz is or not.

I'm sure you have read the advice that males that have not been neutered can be more aggressive and even after the surgery may still compete & fight for the female.

I do wish you very smooth introductions.

They do look healthy in the picture. Again Congratulations on the newest babies!

Haha, funny story...

Well, Nia & Quinn were given to me as planned on Sunday. They look healthy except that Nia is definitly overweight and Quinn's wound is mostly healled (basically just needs to regrow hair in that area). I'll make a vet appointment for either today or tomorrow.

So after their old owner left, I started to set them up in my 'travel cage' (18x18x30) (figgured since it was temporary & they'd get a lot of out of cage time so it'd be ok). They quickly went into the pouch I provided (happy with the yoggies I gave them) with only a little fuss.

They were settled down so I turned away to sort through the toys & pouches that their previous owner gave me with their cage door open (smack hand). I'm almost done going through the two large grocery bags full of accessories when I hear some crabbing. I turn around. Guess who had figgured away out of his cage & came to investigate in the middle of the friggin day!

Note: Fritz's cage was in the other room and far apart from the 'quarantein cage.

Fritz was in the pouch and some rough housing (nothing serious) was going on. I broke it up.

At that point I figgured that if they're sick, Fritz was already exposed and there wasn't much I could do about it. So, I decided to go ahead with introductins in my dry tub (neutral territory). Things went well, Fritz only tried to start a few fights (yes, I said Fritz - my little 8mo oop glider, lol - the other two just wanted to find a place to sleep).

After probably an hour of scampering around, investigating, a few tustles, & some fussing they crawled into my shirt to sleep. After a few moments of me listening to see if another fight broke out, I figgured this would be a good time to put all 3 into the main cage. So I put them there with 2 pouches to choose from. They all chose the same one.

I also put a 2nd kitchen in their just in case. And I put in clean toys from Nia's & Quinn's old home to help them feel more comfortable.

There was minimall fussing for the rest of the day & last night. I spotted Quinn grooming Fritz (Fritz was like 'get off me man!' lol) so that's a good sign. Nia & Quinn both groomed me a bit (I'd put my hand in with them if the fussing got a little too much). :D

Nia hogged the wheel basically all night (the stealth wheel needed a GOOD clean before I'd put it into their cage) which I was glad because I'm trying to figgure out ways to help her loose some of that excess weight. Now the boys are sleeping in one pouch while Nia is sleeping alone in the 2nd pouch. Also, during the night's play time I often witnessed them all in the coconut hut (picture above) at the same time.

So, thankfully things worked out despite my mistake. lol If there's anything wrong with Nia's & Quinn's checkup, I'll bring Fritz in again pronto as earlier is always best. :D

One thing I did notice is that they hardly touched their food last night, though they drank a lot of water. I'm guessing that's because of the stress. (Both Nia & Quinn were fed HPW before they came me so that's not any added stress for them.)

I'll get pictures of all three soon! :D

Funny, I just did almost the same thing yesterday. I took out 1 of my gliders kitchen to clean and I thought I closed the door the whole way and locked it, but I actually missed the lock. I come back after cleaning and out of the corner of my eye I saw something move across the floor. Low and behold 1 of my boys decided to wake up during the day and venture out. Luckily he is pretty well bonded to me, so the moment I walked over to him. He sat still for me to grab him. Thankfully no chasing, which was a good thing because I was running late. Glad to hear that everything worked out. Can't wait to see the pics..
