Good morning!
Sometimes I read posts about glider mommies and daddies who are nervous about getting their little boys neutered. I took Fionn to be neutered yesterday, and thought I would give an update.
I dropped him off at 8am, and he crabbed for all he was worth! That always breaks my heart, but I know these vets are fantastic with gliders so I am reassured. A couple hours later I got a voicemail saying he did great and is resting comfortably and that I can pick him up anytime after 1. So, I'm there around 1:30 and they first give me three prepared syringes with the tiniest bits of medication inside them and directions which say to give once a day for the next three days starting tomorrow morning. I remember from experience that I should put it in a little bit of natural applesauce. Next, the doc who did the neutering comes out with him in his bonding pouch, and he's quiet until I try to put him around my neck. He crabs a bit, but not with as much gusto as before, and he's quiet once he's settled around my neck. The doc also gives me a list of instructions such as no wheel for two days, separate from other gliders for one week, check his incision site twice a day. The doc also says that he wrapped Fionn's little paws up in bandages to keep him focused on that for a while instead of his boo-boo, but he already pulled hem off. The doc also trimmed his nails and weighed him (69 grams). So, I take Fionn home and he sleeps the whole way, and then in the pouch once we get there. After a while I'm curious so I open the zipper to see how my little guy is doing and he looks up at me and seems just fine. I put him in his cage a while later, and when he wakes up at night it's as if nothing happened to him.
This morning he didn't eat as much as usual, but my instructions said to expect that. He seems his usual self and did me a favor by hanging on the front of his cage so I could see his boo-boo and it looks fine - whew! He jumped onto my arm as usual when I opened the cage door, and hopped around the tent with is just a tad less gusto than usual, but is overall good. He's snuggled up in my hood like usual too.

There! Now, that wasn't that bad, right? Around 8 am I will take his pouch out and give him his applesauce and medicine.

Thanks Leela! He's doing great!
I just went to give him his medicine and at first I couldnt find him in the cage but then I realized he decided to sleep in the ball pouch! Yup...I took a pouch I had and filled it with pompoms and he decided to sleep in there today! He looked so cute! His little white face in between all the Pom poms! Haha!
He's such a good boy! He licked up all the applesauce and medicine
I love my little Fionn!
