Hey everyone. So eventually I'd like to start using the BML diet. I'm hoping the gliders I end up with like it...otherwise I'll end up switching to another. In the meantime I was wondering what kinds of fruits and veggies are NOT okay to mix with the BML diet? A recommendation on fruits and veggies to use would be nice too...but mostly I want to make sure that I know what I need to avoid. Also, allergies? I know they can't have chocolate, but is there anything else I need to be made extra aware of?

The BML diet has very specific vegetables and fruits that need to be served along with it. It's very important to follow the diet (all diets) to the exact instructions, including preparation and serving.

I'm not as familiar with this diet, and am not sure of the correct link that should be given for the original creator. It's been said that the original website is the best source in the case of any changes or modifications have been made by the creator of the specific diet.

I do know that the fruits and vegetables required are very strict due to the CA:P Ratio. Hopefully someone with the exact, correct information will be on soon to help answer your questions.

for bml you want to use peas, carrots, green beans, corn, melons, cherries pitted, apples, blueberries. Basically you want to feed foods that are not high in calcium. The bml mix has a high calcium ratio and needs food high in phos to balance it out.

Rhubarb is toxic
chocolate is toxic
cat nip is toxic
raw lima beans are toxic, cooked or frozen are safe
seeds and pits should be removed
no dairy except yogurt

foods high in fat should be fed in moderation, like avocado.
no beef
no pork

I'm sure I'm missing something.

Leela, you're super helpful! That's all really good to know. What about pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds? I had read somewhere that they liked them, but it was in passing and I'm not sure if they're safe.

For the mixed vegetables in the diet the ones I got have Lima beans in it. Should I pick them out? Do you cook the veggies? Oh and you do thaw them and the fruit from frozen?

No need to pick out the lima beans - there usually are only a few any way. You do not need to cook the vegetables - just put them in the cage a little before your gliders wake up along with the frozen BML and the fruit.

It only takes a few minutes for the frozen vegetables, fruits and BML to thaw enough for the gliders to eat everything.
