On Wednesday I was fortunate enough to go to Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney, Australia. I couldn't wait to go to the nocturnal house where I watched many interesting animals usually active at night. Like every other Zoo that I have visited the Sugar Gliders were fast asleep. However I felt very privileged to watch a close relative two Yellow Bellied Gliders play in the trees. Like watching Sugar Gliders I enjoyed there antics as they played totally unaware they were being watched.

The sad thing is I probably will never get to see these magnificent creature in the wild as logging and land clearing has put them on the endangered list. Just like the Leadbeater possum the government fails to see that loosing these native animals is really a crime. The timber industry have a much bigger voice and influence than any Wildlife preservation groups and so logging continues in many parts where these Marsupials live.

I am sure that was amazing.It must have been wonderful to see them.

Once you see the picture of this animal it will clear up any people that are wondering if they have a yellow bellied sugar glider (saw in previous posts). Just because their fur is yellow tinted doesn't make them a yellow bellied sugar glider. They look completely different. They are cute as can be too.

Yellow-bellied gliders are not Sugar gliders.

Australia is home to many beautiful exotic's, that is so sad to be losing them.

Unfortunately no photo's. In Sydney I went to the Zoo and the Wildlife park at Darling Harbour but I didn't take my camera as I have lent the chip in it too my daughter who is in Russia. I tried to take a few photo's on my camera phone but they are not so good. I sat and watched a small baby wallaby playing with her older sister and mother by jumping on them and licking there faces. It would have made a wonderful photo but instead its just in my memories.

So yes Ko, I was to busy texting you and Rach to let you know what I was seeing. I was so excited to watch the gliders I had to share it with someone.

Australia is so blessed with these beautiful creatures. I think it's like 200 or so species of marsupials. We in the states have but one native marsupial, the Virginia Opossum. And it ain't as cute as any of the ones in AU. :-) 'Hope you get some pictures on your next trip to the zoo. Thanks for sharing this special post.
