I'm hoping to have put this in the correct thread,I was thinking on info,then question,& decided on this!!
i have just reopened a thread on glider central,bc it has been a month since the last person posted,on all of us taking a count as to how many gliders we have w/in all the communities.
so, if you already haven't done this,please go on over & add yours to the count!!!!!!!

Good question and, forgive me for being off topic, it led me to this thought: why is it that we have gliders needing homes that get no attention or interest in adoption, but when there is a "publicized" case about gliders being rescued everyone wants to help "them"?

I've experienced this time and time again. I'm in Florida and a few years ago had gliders available and ready for their new forever homes. No one was interested. Then, there was a post on a board about a few gliders who had been taken in from a very bad situation. Immediately, folks began posting about how they could take in some of "those" gliders. Why is that?

I think it's great when there are "fun" posts that people like to answer to, but how about directing some of that energy and attention to issues that need discussing?

Like I said, sorry for getting off topic, but thanks to catman for asking his question.

People like to think they are 'saving' an animal versus just adopting one.

They forget that the ones from decent backgrounds still need a home just as much as the neglected ones that come through.

If you want to let people know how many you have, fill out the SUGAR group survey to help with research at the same time.

Yes, the SUGAR Group (I'm part of the SUGAR Group Team) is working very hard to acquire data so we can all learn more about gliders. We are continually developing new surveys so everyone should check back often.
