i have two adorable sugar gliders that are just about ready to leave mom n dad.

i am having a terrible time letting go of them (also they are so gosh darn cute) because i am paranoid of letting them into the wrong hands.

anyone have any advice on how to find parents? should i use craigslist?

I guess the best thing you can do is screen people AND send them home with LOTS of diet info, vet info, cage requirements, time requirements, etc... in case they don't know as much as they say. I would definitely recommend that they have experience with gliders at the very least and that they have appropriate sized housing. I'd also ask what vet they use. Tell them to check these glider sites as well! There's an infinite amount of info here.

I actually did get my 3 gliders off of Craigslist but I had to prove that I was knowledgeable about them. The diet, caging requirements and all that. I'd take the same route if you post on CL. Screen people and you could even go so far as to ask to see where they would be housed. I spoil mine with their nearly 6ft cage and huge tent to play in, I would hope your babies would get the same treatment.

I would have the potential new owner have EVERYTHING ready for them before taking them home - cage, pouches, toys, diet - VET, etc.

If they have all of these things, then I would say they are pretty serious. AND I would do a home visit...

This is exactly why I could never breed. I could never let them go.

Several of us have adopted gliders that were posted here. I found my last two that way.

You might want to post this in the Classified section. Anyone looking for gliders would look there first.

Rita...I'm with you. I could never let them go. I fostered dogs for a few years but the stress of letting them go was too much and I had to stop.I would worry even more with these little guys since they require so much. T....I agree you should see the home enviroment first. Best of luck to you and your little ones.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS CONTACT MARCEE LOVER. I ADOPTED MARCEE FROM HER AND SHE HAD PROBABLY THE BEST SET OF QUESTIONS ABOUT POTENTIAL BUYERS THAT I EVER SAW. A LOT OF QUESTIONS WERE OUT OF THE NORM BUT THEY WERE VERY IMPORTANT IF YOU WANT THE BEST FOR YOUR BABIES.

Why not neuter the males and keep them as a family? We don't seperate families here and the gliders are so happy as family units.
If you are going to sell them then interview the new owners, ask lots of questions, make sure any males are neutered before leaving so they don't become breeders who's offspring add to future gliders needing rescue. Have the people come for education and bonding time until the gliders, the new owners and you all feel comfortable. Go over everything from diet to health issues, make sure they have all needed supplies before the gliders leave. Don't trust anyone who gives you bad vibes. Also, have a signed adoption agreement that if they ever can't keep the gliders they come back to you. I would also add into the agreement that they can't be seperated, used for breeding, given away or sold just to be on the safe side.

We just sold our first joey to some good friends of ours and it was really hard, but I could deffinately tell a difference in the way our two acted when she was gone. They were more like themselves again, climbing the curtains again and jumping around more and such- so that was fun, maybe that's a good thought that could help you let go.
