The other day I got a letter from the vet talking about dogs getting the flu and I was wondering what about gliders? I also am cheeking my house extra clean because I am in college and I work with children during the day and I don't want to get sick! Are there things that I need to watching while I am cleaning? I try to use all natural thing when I can but some times it does not cut it with the H1N1 going around work and school.

I thought H1N1 was a human / Swine thing and that other species couldn't get it. I thought that most Human colds and flus only pertained to humans. I don't think you can transmit a flu to a glider. and Vice versa. I could be wrong though...

They can catch bacterial infections from us. You can use clorox wipes in and around their cage. If someone is sick, they should not handle their gliders or prep their food if possible.

What my exotic vet doctor told me is that people can't easily transfer swine flu/colds etc. from humans to pets. It's a very small chance.

I know first hand that we can transmit bacterial infections to our gliders. I had bronchitus a few years back and Tosca ended up with an upper respiratory infection and had to go on antibiotics for 10 days along with me. I felt so bad that I gave it to her...

Viruses and bacteria are constantly mutating, so I doubt very well that our suggies are not at risk from picking up illnesses from us handling them. So just like washing our hands is important to our health, we also know it's important to their health in the fact that touching things and touching our suggies could harm them.

but i am only saying, that some people think animals can take your illness. such as a cat or dog. i was wondering if it is true if suggies could do it to. not that id ever test it... was all i meant.
