I think I know the vet you're talking about. I don't know how reliable he is, but his videos have some decent information in them...
Personally, I didn't force Tveit to be in my hands at all. I kept him in the pouch and put my hand inside to pet him. I hand fed him treats. He is pretty bonded to me, but still won't walk onto my hand completely most of the time. He always leaves one hand on his cage/pouch.
I think petting them, holding them in the pouch, playing with them at night and letting them crawl on you, and using a piece of fleece with your smell for them to sleep with at night is plenty.
