I just got my first breeding pair of sugar gliders 3 days ago and I was not aware that the female was already pregnant and now that I have spent some time around them it's pretty obvious that they were not handled at all the breeder I got them from said they were a little feisty but didn't bite but that's not true at all I can't go anywhere close to them without them screaming or freaking out and jumping away and with the female being around 4 week IP I don't won't to stress her out.


what should I do?

Then don't go anywhere near them.

better yet.
1. put food in the cage before they wake up 6-7 pm.
2. take food out after they go to sleep about 9 am.

then if you want to try it.
quietly sit next to cage, if you see them just quietly talk to them. maybe in a
week or two see if they will come over to you for a treat through the cage bars.

We got connor and I would wait till he came out of pouch, then slowly put
a dish with a treat on it for him to have. over time I would switch from a dish
(plastic lid) to my hand.

Normally if they are NOT pregnant I would say DONT WORRY ABOUT THE CRABBING,
I got one female for several years that will still crab when I put my hand in the
pouch, the other five will start to lick my fingers, she will just give a small
crab. crabbing is what they do, yes it means they are scared and want you to
go away, but other times its just like a dog backing, they do it out of habit.
or protection of the colony. don't get all worked up about the crabbing, just
give them the space the need for now, and start slow with just spending some night
time near the cage. you can work on bonding after joey is bigger.
