Jul 5, 2014 7/5/2014 Posted by: LeelaI put a new stuffed animal in Miss Leela's house, it was rather big but she loved it, however i moved it and had it to close to her running wheel causing her wheel to not move. She was not pleased!! and i couldn't tell why, she was doing laps around her house ending with jumping on her wheel to try to free it up but it wasn't working. Once i realized it wasn't moving i opened the door to move the stuffed animal and out Leela came!! i was a little worried she'd bolt but she didn't, she went around on the outside of her house... i didn't want to scare her so i offered her the bonding pouch and to my surprise she went right in!! i was so proud of her!! fortunately there were a few cheerios in her pouch which i had forgotten about, she found immediately lol so she got rewarded for being so good. later on after i feel asleep she started doing laps in her house again Darrin couldn't figure out what was wrong, then he noticed her bonding pouch wasn't in her hammock (i usually put it in there for her in case she gets cold)so he put it up to the side and she started pulling it in between the bars lol. He finally got it put inside her cage and she was happier! This morning she decided she didn't want to be in her pouch.. she discovered my sweatshirt sleeve!! Thank god she has gotten better about not biting lol she played in my sleeve for about a half hour then snuggled in next to my arm for a nap. guess i'm not doing dishes till later lol
Jul 4, 2014 Bonding milestone Posted by: Toodles_JennieAnother night of tent time, noticed Jennie and Toodles might be jumping on me when scared so I put it to the test.... When I moved from one side of the tent to the other and when the kids startled them, mainly Jennie but sometimes Toodles would jump on me. Girls still are not fond of my palm but they're coming around slowly. Jul 3, 2014 Sudden aggression between my 2 males .. Posted by: britty_sI am looking for some help and this is the story about my gliders. I was introduced to my first male glider William. Before I had him he was in a cage with multiple other gliders and was not used to people. I got him free due to the fact he had a missing foot and half a tail and I taimed him myself he is now very sweet. I got my second male glider Leo from a friend I know when her female got pregnant. I got him as a friend for my William. I housed them in seperate cages and got them used to eachother in all the right ways. Now about 8 months later they are in the same cage and acting suddenly agressive. I am aware that one is trying to be alpha male but I think this problem is only with my youngest leo. I'm heavly considering neutering but I was wondering with maturidy if this problem could ever go away? Jul 2, 2014 I'm a newbie with a sick baby Posted by: mrsgrant1104 My family and I added a sugar glider to our family a few days ago. Peaches is such a sweetie and is already so calm and loving towards the three of us. Her eating habits have been terrible (I think due to adjustment and possibly being weaned too early). We bought her with absolutely no knowledge of sugar gliders (foolish, I know). The man who sold her to us assured us that sugar gliders are easy to maintain with very few needs (other than companionship). I am so ignorant. I have been researching everything I possibly can on diet and wellness. Tonight we found that our baby has a swollen spot between two toes, and a blister-like spot on another paw. My husband seems to think she also has a swollen spot under her eye and beneath her mouth (I can't say that I see those). I'm HOPING we are overreacting. Please don't judge us too harshly on our ignorance, we are eager to learn. Tomorrow morning I plan to find out how near we are to an exotic veternarian with sugar glider knowledge. I was just
hoping that maybe there are some night owls out there that can take a look at my attached picture and give an opinion. Jul 2, 2014 First bite Posted by: Toodles_JennieReceived my first bite from the girls last night that actually drew blood. It was from Jennie but not from her being scared, they had treats throughout the tent and she gave me two "exploratory" bites then she bit down.... I think she thought my finger was a snack, I pulled back from reaction but not too concerned because it wasn't a defensive bite. Surely hope that was the last time lol. Jun 26, 2014 Apple sauce Posted by: Catburg321So Izzy is doing good But I herd apple sauce Was good for them so I'd like to know what Brand of Apple sauce To buy please comment. :) Thank you. Jun 26, 2014 6/24/14 Posted by: LeelaBonding...Day 1 One nip on my finger in her pouch she went !! So far so good shes sleeping sound as long as i don't unzip my sweatshirt lol. She has been very good about taking applesauce off my finger tips and took some mango from my fingers using her hands today :) Bonding Day 2! Made her a new pouch this morning, she seems to like much better and doesn't seem to mind my bad stitch work lol Much less fuss today to get her in the pouch not that there was much yesterday. And We decided on a name..... Leela. I did some youtube searching and found the easiest way for me to pick her up is flipping the bonding bag inside out and using it like an oven mit, gently picking her up and holding her kind of cupped then flipping the rest of the bag over her voillaaaaa she's in her bonding pouch no fuss no muss!! more importantly no biting or crabbing. She feels more secure an i feel more confident! good morning Miss Leela !! Day 3 begins:) No crabbing at all! no nipping!! shes getting used to my hands and loving to be petted this morning she gets scrambled eggs for a treat and applesauce of course!! Eggs were a huge success!! Bonding Day 4 So far all is going according to plan! lol Today Leela and i are working on being held in my hands She doesn't seem to be afraid of our hands at all now, Even Darrins monster hands lol putting His tshirt on top of her house is helping her to bond with Him even though He hasn't been home to handle her very much. She's not afraid to take applesauce from his finger though she nibbles on his finger too lol not really a bite but like wheres the rest of it? kind of nibble. Last night was the first time i saw her stretch out and show her "wings" i was so excited i forgot to take pics lol yesterday and today i have noticed Leela is seeking out my hand under the pouch rather than avoiding my hand. She is also hanging out more at the top of the pouch now where the netting is and seems to like to snuggle into me if my hand isn't on the bottom of her pouch. Making pretty good progress!:) Jun 25, 2014 Loki... Posted by: LianiKI let Loki run around the room again last night. Ive been attempting to make it a nightly ritual so he can get more use to me. Unfortunately he still runs away every time I get close to him. The most he allows me to do is pet him in his bonding pouch. I don't know if we will ever have a close relationship. i am starting to loose hope here. I feel like maybe it was a mistake in a way getting him at 2 years old. I hope one day I'll be able to hold him in my hands and have him feel comfortable enough to let me pick him up. sighhh.... Jun 20, 2014 Day 16 Posted by: cygnisI've been stuffing my shirts into the sleeping pouch (without them inside, of course) so they can become more acclimated to my scent while they sleep, and I've noticed some progress. Batman will come to me when I'm near the cage, but still tries to nibble any appendage that gets near enough to him--I really do wish that wouldn't happen, but I don't know what to do about it. He'll gnaw at my wrist bone if I try to hide my fingers. Recently, I've been touching the top of his head when he does it, and I believe it's turning into a sort of a game. I've read that it might be an attempt to groom me, but when I let him nibble, he'll keep going and scrape my skin off. Robin allows me to pet him, despite he tends to be the shyest of the two. Jun 20, 2014 Day 2 tent time Posted by: Toodles_JennieHad tent time for second time. Went well, the girls loved the live crickets. Both Toodles and Jennie will crawl into my hand when they want to get down but they prefer palm down not up. Toodles sometimes "naws" on me but stops if I move or talk to her. Switched to BML diet, they love the premix, but started eating less fruits and veggies.
