Just wanted to say hi! I'm new here. I'm a small hobby breeder in Minnesota. I breed mostly for Leu's, Leu hets and ringtail mosaics. You can check out pics of my gliders on my website www.sarahs-sugar-shack.com/. Looking forward to having a "live" source for up to date info!

 Roadtrip to Los alamos, NM

This is our trip to New Mexico to tour the particle accelerator at Los Alamos. We got to see and understand some very interesting things while spending all day at the lab, including: Cockroft-Walton multiplier, Faraday cage, proton injectors, LINAC, lots of beam pipe and tunnels, proton storage ring, proton radiography, neutron scattering, isotope production, various experiments, beam paths and targets, endless array of unbelievable humongeous power-hungry magnets: benders, kickers, quads, focus/defocus, cryogenics, vacuum, klystrons, cooling, ion pumps, detectors, choppers, bunchers, unimaginable array of power and control wiring for all the above.

A week later and I am still in awe of the massiveness of the mission and tools over there.

CLIPS: video of the Lesharo enroute, free BLM camp site, boondock propane coffee, picked up some Trinitite, view of the Rio Grande from my cousin's back yard, driveway overnight with electric coffee, a few things we saw on our lab tour, clips from Bandelier, expensive RV parked next to me, Valle Grande, road to hot springs, peaceful clips of the Jemez River, retuning home.

 Tent Time is Awesome!

Posted by: RChurch

So far, we've had 4 consecutive nights of tent time, looking to be night #5 tonight. I am loving it! They both get crabby at around 10pm (I guess it's still too early for them) but as soon as they are out, they go NUTS looking for mealworms or hanging out and getting massaged by mommy. ;)

Catwoman loves to lick and nip at my ankles. Yowie, it tickles!!! We actually got some decent pics of her this time, too. She's still our Pet Bullet, but she condescended to have her photo taken for once. XD

I am realizing that we need a 3rd wheel--this time for the tent. We have 1 that's wall mounted and sits mid cage level, and then a floor one, but I think having one in the tent might give Babygirl her wheel fix. That's the first thing she runs to once we put them up.

They were making quite a ruckus last night after we went to bed. I don't know what that was all about but it sure sounded like they were throwing a huge party in their cage. So tired...but so worth it.

Gonna see about doing it again tonight. If nothing else, tent time from 10pm to midnight isn't so bad. Not for a work night. Gonna see about staying up later during our "weekend" (Sun & Mon night) and see if we can really plan something fun for the kids. :)

Tonight, I think we'll do crickets. We haven't done crickets in a while.

"Gahh! Not the face, not the face!"

Tent time can be interesting... and potentially harmful. To me, I mean, of course. I think it's time to switch the normal wheel out for the sandpaper-y one. Haha. Ow.
Okay, so it was an awesome night, I admit. Josie and Jesse were all over me--they barely bit! (A relief to my poor, poor fingertips.) But, when Jesse decided to climb on my face...
It was kind of scary, haha. Ow.
But, the second time around, it was fine... mostly. I mean, come on. When was the last time you had a little, claw-y marsupial on your face, trying to navigate your glasses? ... That's a rhetoric question, all you Suggie-parents with well bonded gliders and glasses. Haha.
Ow.

Thought I would share an old project

This is my back yard at night. I installed all of the lights and wiring and the pergolas and planters. Stuff has finally grown up so that it looks more like it was planned.

The lights are all electric and I used multi-channel flicker controller circuit boards to make them appear like soft gas lamps. It's a neat effect overall. The center lamp post was rescued from a neighbors garbage and I converted it from gas to bulbs and we also etched the clear glass with chemicals to help add to the gas lantern effect.

 Cannabalization...what I should have done....

My sugar gliders first litter came oop the day before yesterday. She is a young mother (about a year) and this is her first litter. I have only had her since January, so it is most likely that she was pregnant before I got her. She had two joeys. Last night I went in to feed them and was shocked and dismayed to see one of her joeys half eaten laying in the cage beneath the nesting box. Not sure what to do, I came here, went on the sugar glider facebook page, and checked out Suz's sugar glider page. After getting some advice, chatting with some members here, and reading in depth on Suz's page, I made the, regrettable, decision to leave joey number 2 in with mom and dad. I checked a few time throughout the night and he seemed to be doing fine. Imagine my distress when I looked in and found a stripped ribcage with a tail and no head. This death was even worse than death number one because I could have prevented it, I SHOULD have prevented it, but I didn't. I am overwhelmed with guilt and completely torn. I have done a lot of research on how to provide the best breeding environment, I have read how to keep an eye out for signs of heat so that I can seperate them as soon as they begin to look like it's time, but none of that helps now. In fact, it is possible that she is already pregnant. I am sad, tired, and feel so guilt ridden that I am at a loss. Do I take her next joeys as soon as they come oop, or do I just hope and pray? That wasn't so effective this time.

 Shiny Incident!

Last night, my Jesse was climbing around on my back--which was awesome, because I got my two suggies only a few weeks ago--so I decided to go outside in the garage to show my parents. We have bright lights in the garage, which I, being the total idiot that I am (XD), forgot about this.
I think he was a bit freaked out and decided to go for the nearest thing: the door of my dad's metal cabinet. He soon discovered that his feet did not get a good purchase and began to rapidly slip. "GAHH!!!"
Luckily, we got him off without too much trouble and safely got him in a mostly-empty paper towel roll. He was so cute! =^.^=

 Almost a Bra Baby

Posted by: RChurch
-----
During last night's tent time, Batman got under my shirt but over my tank top. I don't know if he'll ever be a bra baby, though because for whatever reason, he likes to hang out near my arm pit or waist! But at least he's not sitting on my back anymore. I sometimes think he did that because I couldn't get to him there and he was still a bit distrustful of humans then. He's getting better. But, judging from his past, who could blame him?

Catwoman is still Catwoman--our pet bullet! We took the fleece off the the floor of the tent and no one seems to care. The crinkle noise apparently does not bother either of them. And you should have seen her! She was hopping over the little "speed bumps" on the bottom of the tent like she was a horse hopping over fences!!

We at least remembered to take their meal worms into the tent with us so we were able to bribe her back into her pouch. You could tell she was getting tired toward the end of tent time but she was still not wanting to quit. (Just like a kid, I SWEAR!)

Regarding said meal worms...she kept going to the container try to open it up! LOL! Funny little creature! She wants what she wants, huh? But we wouldn't let her have it til the end. Otherwise, how else would we bribe her back into the pouch? :)

 Integrated :)

Serenity and Precious are now safely to the point where they share a single cage. :) They cuddle with each other a lot and rarely have any problems interacting. Each seems okay giving the other a share of the food and drink and they play and groom together. Soooo adorable. :) Think we're good.
